**Working for the Department of Women's and Gender Studies**

The Department of Women's and Gender Studies (WGS) is a hub for feminist research, social justice studies, and engaged citizenship at the University of Alberta. It is a field of study that encourages students to ask big questions about the way that gender impacts how we think, how we live, and how we understand ourselves and others. Though the field historically focused on the lives of women, in the contemporary Women's and Gender Studies classroom, an emphasis is placed on the ways that gender, race, class, age, sexuality, ability, and size work together.

**Position Summary**

Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI), the Project Coordinator is primarily responsible for the overall management and coordination of the_ Addressing Gender-based Violence through_ _Culture and Art: Co-creating Strength-based Workshops with Indigenous Communities_ project. The Project Coordinator will engage and communicate with project partners and community stakeholders to manage the day-to-day operations of the project and overall milestones. The Coordinator will collaborate with project assistants to develop a resource guide sharing promising practices, maintain partnerships and relationships on and off campus, provide workshop facilitation support, and secure space, supplies, and equipment for workshops.

**Duties**

**Project Management (50%)**
- Develop, manage, and monitor project management plan(s), including project data management, coordinating project activities, risk assessment, waivers, travel planning, equipment lists, etc.
- With Dr. Whiskeyjack, co-lead planning meetings with the project team and stakeholders. Create agendas, maintain project meeting documentation, and share project communications.
- Draft and refine project governance documents in consultation with the project team, including project protocols and protection of Indigenous data sovereignty.
- Support the development of a project evaluation framework informed by Indigenous approaches to evaluation.
- Support the project team in creating status reports/summaries and funding reports, as requested, for projects.

**Community Engagement (50%)**
- With Dr. Whiskeyjack, co-lead community engagement, including with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, Indigenous communities, individuals, and organizations. Travel to nearby communities and organizations may be required.
- Ensure that the project team and community members have the support needed to support a non-academic and potentially unpredictable learning environment successfully. This involves regular de-briefing through both group and one-on-one check-ins.
- With the project team, plan, develop, and implement strength-based scaffolding activities to support and celebrate very diverse learning styles, needs, and capacities.
- Facilitate an environment that respects gender and sexuality diversity
- Working and learning with communities to develop culturally sensitive communications and artistic protocols
- With respect to all project and community engagement undertaken, act in accordance with and respect the ethical expectations of the diverse community partners.

**Minimum Qualifications**
- Undergraduate degree in Native Studies, Social Sciences, Education, Human Services or related discipline
- Experience working with Elders, Indigenous communities, and people who have been or are currently incarcerated is required.
