**Overview**

The Family Violence Educator will take on a dynamic role with both direct client engagement and community outreach responsibilities, designed to promote family violence prevention initiatives, facilitate established community education programs, and increase awareness of Alice House's services. This is a 15-month term contract position.

The position will be primarily responsible for the rollout of the new _Growing Together_ program, a service-provider course aimed at educating professionals on violence prevention, recovery strategies, and the impact of intimate partner violence on young children. Additionally, the Educator will facilitate other client and community-facing domestic violence awareness and prevention initiatives, when applicable, like the _Alice on the Go Program_ which aims to increase an understanding of problematic relationships, recognizing warning signs, and power/control dynamics.

**Job Accountabilities**

**Deliver the Growing Together Program**
- Take full ownership of the _Growing Together_ curriculum, a service-provider course aimed at educating professionals on violence prevention, recovery strategies, and the impact of intimate partner violence on young children.
- Coordinate and execute the program’s marketing, implementation, and evaluation to ensure its effectiveness and accessibility to service providers.
- Foster relationships with community partners and organizations to promote and expand the knowledge of Alice House programs, services and reach.
- Track progress and prepare reports for key stakeholders; report on project costs, implementation, success and learnings.
- Delivers custom education to Early Childhood practitioners including educators, medical professionals, and community service agents.

**Prevention Education & Awareness**
- Facilitate domestic violence prevention education, awareness and recovery support with survivors of domestic violence, virtually and in person.
- Develop and facilitate, or co-facilitate with another team member, a range of informational sessions focused on raising awareness about domestic violence, Alice House services, and the importance of supporting survivors.
- Collaborate with service providers, educators, and other community partners to create a network of support and promote a comprehensive, unified approach to violence prevention and survivor education.
- Contribute to a positive, cooperative team environment by sharing knowledge, insights, and strategies for delivering effective awareness building.
- Facilitate client support over the phone and/or in drop-in centre interactions, as needed.
- Conducts research and prepares professional quality informational documents outlining findings on topics related to Alice House service and the needs of women and children experiencing DV.
- Engages in a high degree of self-directed study and education through peer reviewed journals, community education sessions, webinars, and other educational content aimed at increasing Alice House’s knowledge of and ability to deliver services to parents and young children.

**Administration**
- Contributes to the Alice House team environment to accomplish strategic and service-specific goals.
- Supports administrative duties such as managing phones, front door duties, sanitization schedule, filing, statistical reporting, and other duties.
- Participates in operational protocol and best practice development.
- Participates in broad Alice House initiatives and events.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Skills/Qualifications**
- Reliable access to a car is required for this position, along with a valid NS Driver’s License.
- Bachelor's degree in social work, education, or a related human services degree with minimum 2 years relevant experience working with children, youth and families who have experienced trauma.
- Demonstrated experience in emotional, psycho-social, and mental health program development and facilitation.
- Certification in Standard First Aid and CPR and Suicide Intervention (ASIST), or a commitment to secure these requirements within 3 months of being hired.
- Must be able to work flexible hours on occasion.
- Must be cognizant of the issues, concerns, and psychosocial implications experienced by children and families who have experienced family violence.
- Understanding and integration of trauma informed practice principles.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion practice in the workplace.
- Have strong knowledge of community agencies and additional mental health services available to children and youth in the Halifax Region.
- Ability to work flexibly as an individual contributor within a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Demonstrate resiliency and have a balanced holistic approach and outlook towards work and life.
- Extremely reliable and accountable to clients and obtainment of program targets.
