The successful applicant will work directly with MMRI students, staff, faculty, and industry partners to deliver on research and industry projects. This work will require detailed knowledge of CAD/CAM, machine tools, tooling, fixturing, quality control, and metrology equipment. Required skills include being able to prepare machine setups, check advanced programs, develop detailed equipment installation and maintenance plans, provide technical support for tool path planning, provide operator and safety training, and consult with researchers to ensure projects are completed efficiently and effectively.

Key functions of the position:

- Setting up and operating CNC machines
- Training students on CNC machines
- Working with students, researchers, and industry to design for manufacturability
- Overseeing students operating machinery
- Troubleshooting machining processes
- Conducting routine machinery maintenance
- Selecting and sourcing materials and tooling to complete jobs
- Providing quotes for machining projects
- Co-ordinating with suppliers as required for operations that cannot be completed in-house

The skills and qualities required for this position include:

- 5 years of relevant industrial experience in a machining/manufacturing environment
- A wide range of technical skills related to all types of manufacturing
- Advanced knowledge of manual and CNC mill and lathe programming and operations
- Knowledge of CAD/CAM
- Ability to read detailed technical drawings as well as interpret GD&T information
- Metrology knowledge covering a wide range of manual gages and automatic systems
- Research skills to source materials and equipment
- Basic computer skills - Word/Excel/Powerpoint
- Basic safety training in a machine shop/manufacturing environment
- Willingness and patience to work closely with staff and students to provide training and leadership

The ability to acquire or improve any underdeveloped skills or knowledge sets within a satisfactory time frame is essential.
