**Job Summary**:
Highly collaborative and an excellent communicator, the Scholarly Communications and Copyright Librarian’s outreach and education efforts across both institutions will ensure the Library’s contributions in this space are widely understood by key campus stakeholders including students, faculty, teaching and learning staff, and library colleagues.

**Responsibilities/accountabilities**:
The Scholarly Communications & Copyright Librarian portfolio spans the following areas:
**Engagement & Advocacy**
- Navigates rapidly-shifting landscape to clearly communicate and advocate for open access principles and the impact on scholarly publishing with internal and external audiences, thereby advancing the scholarly conversation
- Scope of advocacy includes: open access, author’s rights, open data, Open Educational Resources (OERs)

**Copyright**
- Supporting copyright compliance across the College and the University

**Scholarly Communications**
- Providing expert advice to researchers looking to publish their work
- Provides specialized instructional, research and publishing support services across the institution as required
- Internal and external relationship building. Includes peers from other institutions, organizations and agencies supporting scholarly publishing

**Open Education**
- Promotes and supports the research, adoption, adaptation, creation, distribution and use of OERs by faculty
- Develops and shares expertise in various tools and platforms for adaptation, creation, and evaluation of OERs
- Collaborating with partners in the institution (e.g. Teaching and Learning, IT, faculty and staff), in the planning, delivery, and assessment of programming related to open education
- Supports the selection, implementation and maintenance of digital tools and platforms to support knowledge creation, preservation and dissemination

**Required Skills and Knowledge**:

- ** **Presentation skills and the ability to present complex ideas to a variety of audiences
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills
- Project management and/or strategic planning
- Outreach, advocacy, education
- Knowledge of Canadian copyright in an educational context
- General knowledge of repository platforms, data management solutions, publishing platforms and researcher identity systems
- Knowledge of pedagogical frameworks for post-secondary learners (e.g. ACRL’s Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education)
- ** **An advocate for open scholarship models
- Committed to collaboration and collegiality
- Possesses intellectual curiosity and demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and lifelong learning

- A flexible, adaptable multi-tasker

**Required Education**:

- MLIS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution
- Verification of Academic credentials may be required

**Required Experience**:

- ** **Use of methods for measuring and communicating research impact
- Experience identifying issues relating to intellectual property, including licensing
- Engagement with the scholarly communications ecosystem including emerging publishing models and research dissemination practices
- Application of copyright regulations in an advisory capacity
- Experience collaborating with campus partners to increase the adoption of best practices in scholarly communications
- 1 to 3 years of professional library experience, preferably in an academic library setting.
