Hours of Work: Normal hours of work are forty (40) hours a week, usually Monday through Friday. Shifts are eight (8) hours per day plus a thirty (30) minute unpaid meal break. Flexibility in scheduling is necessary as there may be the occasional requirement to address functions outside of normal work hours such as to conduct inspections, respond to urgent matters, or to work overtime as needed.

The Town of Collingwood is currently looking for a Forestry Coordinator. Reporting to the Manager, Parks, the Coordinator, Forestry will be responsible for the Town’s overall urban forest management plan with a focus on continuous improvement and cross-functional collaboration. The position will take the primary role in implementation of the Urban Forest Management plan recommendations, including but not limited to coordination/completion of physical works, forecasting future budget requirements, establishing maintenance standards, and overall administration and maintenance of the urban forest inventory. The Coordinator will develop policy recommendations and appropriate supporting procedures and take overall responsibility for the management and improvement of the urban forest.

As a key member leading forestry and arboriculture initiatives, the position will: develop/maintain programs such as technical tree guidelines, hazard risk assessments, tree inventories, and invasive species control; perform and oversee various arboriculture tasks; and provide technical guidance and advice to Town staff, contractors, and homeowners/customers. The main duties and responsibilities of the position are in the areas of urban forestry and canopy management, forestry plan administration, and other forestry-related functions.

**Knowledge, Skills, and Experience**:

- Degree in Urban Forestry or related discipline.
- Full Registered Professional Forester or Associate Registered Professional Forester designation considered an asset.
- Possess ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ). ISA Certified Municipal Arborist considered an asset.
- Five (5) years of related urban forestry/arborist experience. Municipal experience is an asset.
- Aerial bucket/boom lift certificate, current chainsaw certification, working at heights certificate, and Safety & Awareness for Line Clearing Certificate from the Electrical & Safety Utilities Association of Ontario (E&USA) and Ministry of Environment Pesticide licenses considered an asset.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the planning, development, operation, and maintenance of urban forestry services including forest management policies and procedures, tree inventory and tree inspections in relations to risk assessment, tree preservation techniques, insect/disease identification. Training and experience in tree climbing, roping, and felling are considered assets.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, time management, project management, record keeping, problem-solving, organizational, and public relations skills, together with the ability to use tact and discretion and to deal courteously and effectively with the public and fellow staff members.
- Ability to multi-task, cope with interruptions and work under pressure to meet multiple deadlines, exercise discretion and good judgment. Possess a high degree of initiative and personal integrity.
- Physically capable of performing the required functions of the position (e.g., standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling), competently operating various equipment related to arboriculture, trucks, brush chippers, stump grinders, and wear the applicable personal protective equipment (e.g., helmet, cleats, steel-toed footwear, etc.).
- Computer literacy utilizing word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and data base software, as well as ability to obtain information from geographical information systems and the internet. Computer proficiency in GIS Tree Inventory considered an asset.
- Valid Class “G” Driver’s Licence in good standing and a current Driver’s Abstract with results satisfactory to the Employer.
- Possess Criminal Record & Judicial Matters Check (Level 2) with results satisfactory to the Employer and a valid standard first aid and CPR/AED Level C certificate (or willing to obtain).
