We support Albertans in being proud stewards of air, land, water, and biodiversity by leading the work required for the desired environmental outcomes and sustainable development of natural resources.

**Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Initiative**
Managing the threat of aquatic invasive species (AIS) in Alberta is an initiative to help stop the introduction and spread of AIS into Alberta's lakes, rivers, and across borders. Watercraft inspections are part of a larger province-wide AIS Program that includes monitoring, response planning, education campaigns, and policy. The Watercraft Inspections Program is focused primarily along major highways in Alberta and it is mandatory for all vehicles towing watercraft to stop at open inspection stations.

**Role Responsibilities**:
Are you passionate about protecting Alberta waters for future generations to enjoy?

If you enjoy leading and motivating people, can handle pressure well, are mechanically inclined, are able to work outdoors for long hours, and love working with the public, this may be the job for you We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to fill an AIS Supervisor / Decontamination Technician position in Lethbridge.

As a supervisor of two watercraft inspection stations, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the inspection stations and the supervision of station inspectors. In your role as supervisor you will be setting, communicating, and modeling expectations for your team, ensuring inspectors are following operational procedures, creating work schedules, solving problems as they arise, and establishing a culture of health and safety at your station. You will be responsible for resolving conflicts with members of the public as well as within your team.

As a Decontamination Technician, you will also be responsible for the direct delivery of the decontamination element of the provincial AIS program. This position is responsible for efficiently and effectively providing service to Albertans when watercraft require quarantine and/or are fouled with invasive species and full decontamination is required. As a Fishery Guardian, this position holds special authority under the Fisheries (Alberta) Act for decision making that can result in quarantine and decontamination of watercraft belonging to members of the public. This position often requires extensive travel throughout the province when following up with high-risk watercraft.

When working with staff at inspection stations, you will be required to thoroughly inspect the interior and exterior of various types of watercraft to look for any presence of AIS. Utilizing your exceptional communication skills, you will interview boaters to determine the risk of introducing AIS in to Alberta's water bodies. A key role of this position is to educate the public on the threat of AIS, particularly invasive mussels, and provide "Clean Drain Dry" outreach materials to the public aimed at changing boater behavior and reducing the spread of AIS. You will be required to tow and back up trailers and use a high-pressure hot water decontamination unit for cleaning boats.
