**Primary Purpose
Reporting to the Manager Payroll and Benefits, the Payroll Specialist will play a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll for our faculty and staff. You will be responsible for managing payroll-related tasks, maintaining employee records, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, and providing exceptional service to our faculty and staff.

**Specific Responsibilities**
- Conduct end-to-end payroll processing for faculty and staff and payment of invoices for independent contractors, ensuring accuracy and timeliness for GUS Canada Colleges using our HRIS Dayforce. Ensure that all data is entered correctly, and that payroll is processed in compliance with College policies, and federal and provincial regulations.
- Review and validate expenses and invoices for accuracy, approvals and compliance with College policies. Upload to HRIS payroll.
- Calculate wages, deductions, and withholdings, including taxes and other deductions such as benefits and garnishments; ensure accuracy of system calculations.
- Process all payroll-related documents and records including ROEs, T4s, remittances, reconciliations. Prepare and submit required reports.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee payroll records and benefits records, including personal information, salary adjustments, benefits deductions, tax withholding, and other relevant data. Ensure confidentiality and security of information.
- Stay up to date on related legislation and ensure all practices are compliant with applicable laws and regulations.
- Continuously evaluate and streamline payroll processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and data integrity. Stay informed about industry best practices and recommend changes to enhance payroll operations.
- Maintain accurate payroll-related documentation, including procedures, policies, and guidelines.
- Collaborate with other employees in People and Culture to ensure accurate administration of employee benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other benefits. Deduct appropriate amounts from employee paychecks and process necessary paperwork related to benefits enrollment, changes, and terminations as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

**Position Requirements**

Education and Experience:

- College diploma or Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum 5 years experience in full-cycle payroll.
- PCP or PLP designation preferred.
- Experience with HRIS implementation and maintenance is highly desirable.

Knowledge and Skills:

- Proficiency in HRIS/Payroll software/systems. Knowledge of Ceridian Dayforce preferred.
- Understanding of provincial payroll legislation.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills. Excel is required.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills modelling positive, constructive communications with contacts at all levels across the organization

**Work Conditions**

Hybrid work schedule with the expectation to work onsite on an occasional basis as required. Work location will vary between GUS Canada Colleges locations in Toronto.
