**Position Summary**

The investigator is responsible for investigating the practice, conduct or actions of registrants in an unbiased manner. The types of investigations can include Registrar’s investigations, complaints, health inquiries and other regulatory matters. The results of an investigation are provided to the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee to assess whether the registrant has committed an act of professional misconduct or is incompetent in accordance with provincial and federal statutes. The investigator supports legal proceedings and serves as a witness as required.

**What You’ll Do at OCP**
- Assess incoming information for risk to the public, the reputation of the College and prosecutorial viability
- Develop, document, and implement an investigation plan to meet designated timelines for each matter to be investigated
- Conduct investigations in a neutral and objective manner by gathering and analyzing information and documents obtained from various sources, including, but not limited to pharmacies, hospitals, wholesalers, government and insurance agencies, and interviewing witnesses (which can include medical professionals), obtaining medical records where necessary. Attend pharmacies and other off-site locations as required to obtain information relevant to the investigation
- Prepare written correspondence and investigation reports; compile documents and data supporting the results of an investigation. Update RADAR on a timely basis
- Attend College screening committee meetings and review the committee’s decisions as needed.
- Provide all investigation materials to be disclosed to the registrant when a matter has been referred to the Discipline Committee
- Assists College prosecutors by providing information related to the investigation and general pharmacy practice information, and reviewing prosecutorial assessments, pre-hearing conference memorandums and other documents as needed
- Attend and testify at discipline hearings, court proceedings and Health Professions Appeal and Review Board (HPARB) reviews
- Conduct off-site compliance monitoring as required
- Examine work process and explore opportunities for continuous quality improvement and make recommendations to the Assistant Manager, Investigations
- Work within records management principles and guidelines for record keeping, including tracking time spent on investigations and gathering data as required
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and flag with supervisor
- Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Manager, Investigations

**What we’re looking for**
- Demonstrated working knowledge of the laws, regulations, and Standards of Practice governing pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacies
- Must have access to a vehicle and possess a valid Ontario driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Demonstrated ability to work through investigation and legislated processes, remaining objective, consistent and fair in all interactions
- Superior written, verbal and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to build trust and relationships with stakeholders
- Effective interviewing skills and investigative techniques with attention to detail
- Tact and diplomacy when interacting with all stakeholders and ability to de-escalate difficult situations as required
- Demonstrated skills in responsible judgment and discretion; ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive material
- Demonstrated effective case management strategies
- Strong analytical, problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution skills with an ability to research, synthesize and compile large amounts of data in an organized format
- Self-motivated and solid organizational skills to efficiently prioritize and effectively manage workload
- Ability to prioritize multiple competing demands while meeting targeted deadlines and benchmarks
- Ability to work independently with a commitment to teamwork
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat and relational database
- Understanding of pharmacy workflow and working knowledge of pharmacy software systems

**What experience we prefer**
- Diploma in a related field or equivalent
- Must have 5-7 years of related experience.
- 4+ years’ experience in a legal, regulatory or investigative setting is considered a strong asset
- 4+ years’ pharmacy practice experience
