**Position Summary**:
Reporting to the Fibre Splicing Manager, the Fiber Splicer will be responsible for performing splicing and termination of optical fibers to establish and maintain communication networks. You will work with various types of fiber optic cables and splice enclosures to ensure high-quality connections for data transmission.

**Responsibilities**:

- Weekly Scheduling - Start accepting all the Jira Splicing tickets and schedule accordingly, making sure all daily tasks are completed:

- Daily ticket audits
- Read a telecom plan and perform the planned work.
- Plan the work and make sure you have the necessary tools and equipment to complete the work.
- Preparation of splice boxes and various terminations
- Assist with other departments
- Install all associated fibre cable and fibre optic equipment for construction projects.
- Perform OTDR-IOLM tests, interpret results, and make necessary corrections.
- OTDR report production
- Troubleshooting new and existing fibre optic lines and circuits.
- Record keeping and documentation of new and existing cable & splicing details.
- Routine and emergency cutover of new and existing fibre optic lines and circuits.
- Collect “as-built” information accurately and in a timely manner.
- On call availability when necessary.
- All other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**:

- High school diploma and/or post-secondary degree or diploma in technology preferred but not required.
- 2 to 3 years of fibre splicing or similar experience.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Knowledge of the telecommunications industry.
- Competency in OTDR and other testing protocol.
- Experience building various FOSC (ex. 450D, 600D), and Fibre Entrance Cabinets.
- Comfortable using a 28FT extension ladder to retrieve FOSC’s from aerial strands.
- Confined Space experience preferred: entry into Toronto Hydro, Bell Beanfield and other.

**Working Conditions**:

- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
- Must stand for long periods of time, work in confined spaces and ladder work
- Their jobs also require a considerable amount of climbing and bending.
- Heavy lifting approximately 50lbs
