**SCOPE AND LEVEL DEFINITION**:
Under the direction of the Programs Director, or designate, and as part of the leadership team, works as a consistent point of contact for CMHA MI staff in Harm Reduction and Wellness related programming. Within the context of client-centred supportive services and following principles of psychosocial rehabilitation, housing first, harm reduction, and trauma-informed practice, oversees the day-to-day operations of the harm reduction and wellness programs. Assists in the development and implementation of program services and advocates for peer involvement. Participates in the planning and program service delivery by responding to identified program needs within the program guidelines. Motivates, assists, and instructs program staff. Liaises with other members of the leadership team, front-line staff and community service teams. Performs duties such as supporting adherence to organizational policies and procedures, supervising staff, ensuring safety and creating statistical reports and completes administrative tasks required by the program. This position requires a significant amount of community involvement, liaison, and collaboration.
**TYPICAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Harm Reduction Education:
- In accordance with established procedures, acts as a consistent point of contact for harm reduction related information and education at CMHA MI.
- Engages positively with people who use illicit substances and other stigmatized populations using a harm reduction approach.
- Builds rapport, provides support and advocates for a diverse range of clients including individuals who are actively using substances and living with significant health challenges.
- Where required, advises service users of their rights and obligations related to organizational policies, and health and safety; ensuring rights of privacy and confidentiality are maintained.
- Advocate for peers by problem solving in areas such as financial assistance, accessing community resources and obtaining other work placements.
- Point of contact for community partners around harm reduction education, supplies, services, etc.
- Community Involvement:
- Corresponding with other service providers to coordinate services, problem solves and ensures that the opportunities provided in different programs are well understood.
- Acts as liaison with community agencies, and promotes and encourages community involvement in the program.
- Plans and organizes various events with other community partners.
- Attends meetings with community partners, funders, as required.
- Provide naloxone training, harm reductions services, etc., in community as requested and needed.
- Administrative Tasks:
- Collecting and maintaining all information as required.
- Communicating, updating, and informing individuals/community agencies regarding services, changes to services and/or programs.
- Assisting in the preparation of the budget, monitoring budgeted expenditures, and assisting with financial reports and payments.
- Review and create program policies as needed.
- Staff Supervision:
- Assigning work and providing direction to staff in the Harm Reduction and Wellness related programs/areas.
- Assigning and scheduling work to program staff to ensure that services provided are in accordance with operational policy.
- Providing input to the Programs Director and Operations Coordinator regarding feedback, evaluation and training requirements.
- Orienting new staff and sharing expertise with other members of the team
- Conducting team meetings.
- Assisting in providing educational experiences to students.
- Provides input regarding policies, procedures, goals, and evaluation of the programs.
- Keep up to date on new methods to provide services; develop new techniques and meet previously unmet needs by investigating and taking required action in consultation with the Programs Director.
- Works collaboratively with the leadership team to evaluate harm reduction and wellness programming in meeting the needs of the individuals and the community by observing and responding to individual feedback and inquiries and complaints related to delivery of support services.
- Ensures the maintenance, cleanliness, and safety of location(s).
- Ensures all staff are following guidelines as outlined in the policy and procedure manual.
