**Summary**: Reporting to a designated Patient Resident Care Manager for operational issues and the Professional Practice Leader, Occupational Therapy for professional issues, the position develops, implements and evaluates art program(s) designed to support residents' (including adults with dementia) physical, social, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual needs, interests and well-being. Monitors and documents residents' progress and carries out an established art program by providing instruction to and overseeing residents' in various techniques. Encourages participation of new residents, maintains inventory levels and provides direction and orientation to new staff and volunteers.
**Qualifications / Skills and Education**: Education
Graduation from a recognized art diploma program (e.g. Visual Art, Fine Art) plus one year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Ability to deal with others effectively.

Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

Ability to supervise.

Ability to organize work.

Ability to operate related equipment.

**Duties and Responsibilities**: Plans, implements and evaluates art program, including painting, drawing, fabric and têxtile arts, and clay projects to meet residents' physical, social, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual needs and interests; develops the goals and objectives of the program.

Determines the art program which meets the residents' needs and abilities (including adults with dementia) by reviewing the referral or care plan, interviewing the resident regarding their social/leisure interests and history, and consulting with family and nursing staff; identifies, evaluates, implements, and documents goals and objectives based on individual interests and abilities.

Monitors, evaluates, and documents resident progress within the art program and reports observations such as emotional well-being and social behaviour to nursing/medical staff as required. Participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings and care conferences. Identifies and makes recommendations regarding community and facility resources that may be of additional interest or need to the resident.

Instructs residents' either one on one or in a group in the use of materials, and supports and collaborates with them in the realization of their art projects. Designs, prepares, finishes and distributes projects to meet residents' needs and interests while encouraging personal choices that promote independence.

Encourages the participation of new residents' in the program.

Maintains inventory, tools and materials and reports malfunctioning equipment and supply needs to the Leader.

Monitors program expenditures and provides input to the program budget.

Proposes adaptations regarding existing art initiatives to meet the needs of the residents' and recommends new ideas or equipment to the Leader.

Maintains departmental records as required. Prices and sells residents' creative projects.

Schedules work assignments relating to resident projects and collaborates direction to coworker and volunteers. Provides direction to new staff and demonstrated related techniques as required.

Participates in artworks program planning for workshops both in house and off site.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
