**Paralegal - Child Protection**(Winnipeg)

Tapper Cuddy LLP is a full-service law firm (based in Winnipeg, Manitoba) that helps individuals and business owners get the legal support they need and results they’re looking for in litigation, business law, family law and 20 other areas of practice. In order to continue to achieve a high level of service, we are looking to add to our team in our Family & Child Protection Department.

**Role**:
This is an exciting role for an accomplished legal assistant who is looking for an opportunity for professional growth. The incumbent excels at collaborating within a team to achieve results, but is also highly skilled, and has a demonstrated ability to work independently.

In this role the incumbent will act as a primary point of contact for the firm’s clients. The incumbent has a high degree of responsibility working with multiple lawyers and is responsible for ensuring that files are created and up to date within the timelines permitted under _The Child and Family Act_.

**Responsibilities**:
**Legal Document Preparation**:

- Prepare complex legal documents based on multiple sources of information, including but not limited to Petitions, Service Packages (including Affidavit of Service, Particulars, Case Plans)
- Prepare service packages and arrange for process servers, as required.
- Prepare and update docket lists.
- Prepare Orders granted at docket, Intake and Pre-trials.
- Act as liaison between the Firm and other stakeholders

**Administrative Duties**:

- Create and maintain paper and electronic filing system
- Prepare invoices within strict timelines.
- General administrative duties as may be required, including filing, scanning, copying, etc.
- Prepare other documents and correspondence as may be required based on verbal instructions

**Skills & Qualifications**:

- 5+ years of prior experience working as a legal assistant in a related field
- Experience in the area of Child Protection Law is considered an asset.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation
- Exceptional inter-personal skills with an ability to create and foster professional relationships
- Multitasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated ability to utilize critical thinking and make decisions based on sound judgement
- Highly organized with great attention to detail
- Team player with the ability to handle confidential information with discretion
