**Position Summary**

The GIS Coordinator, Saskatchewan Region, supports the Nature Conservancy of Canada’s actions to conserve biodiversity in Saskatchewan by providing expertise on conservation science and stewardship, and supports the work of the Region by acquiring, maintaining, and analyzing GIS data.

**Key Responsibilities**

**GIS Data Management**
- Lead in the creation, update, management, interpretation, documentation, and use of GIS datasets and ensuring quality control of GIS data.
- Lead in acquiring, compiling, aligning, and verifying third party datasets.
- Implement data backup procedures and track data holdings, as needed.
- Provide mapping services and support for securement, stewardship, science, and engagement activities.
- Lead the development of GIS platforms and tools to facilitate the use of and access to GIS by regional staff.
- Assist in research and development of GIS standards and protocols for the Region and participate in committee and user groups as required.
- Work closely with other staff to coordinate data integration with other data management systems.

**Land, Water and Species Management**
- Provide guidance on NCC’s standards and support the coordination and sharing of stewardship techniques, protocols, monitoring, management, and reporting.
- Contribute to the development and adaptation of electronic data collection tools to facilitate field data collection and contribute to training regional staff in the use of these tools.
- Evaluate and report on NCC’s conservation success, monitor success of current stewardship practises and identify innovative approaches to land stewardship.
- Support emerging province-wide initiatives on invasive species management, climate change adaptation and freshwater conservation.
- Support subregions in undertaking field inventories, monitoring and implementation of conservation actions as required.
- Build capacity in stewardship staff, interns, and others involved in NCC science and stewardship field work by supporting staff training in areas of field techniques, volunteer management and research.
- Coordinate and undertake research of key regional stewardship issues.

**Conservation Planning**
- Provide support to the Manager, Science and Planning, on NCC’s standardized methods and templates in the development of Natural Area Conservation Plans (NACPs) and NACP annual progress reports.
- Support data collection, analysis, and report writing for regional conservation planning and biodiversity assessment projects.
- Support the preparation of Conservation Project Summaries, Property Management Plans, and other documents and reports as required.

**Academic and Expert Partnerships**
- Support the Manager, Science and Planning in maintaining NCC’s list of priority research projects.
- Work with academic partners to link researchers with priority projects.
- Provide regular reports on academic and research partnerships.
- Support engagement of expert volunteers (e.g., consultants, naturalists) in assisting with baseline inventories and stewardship of NCC properties.
- Support the work of the Region’s Conservation Science Advisory Committee

**Fundraising and Special Projects**
- Support the development of funding proposals and presentations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager, Science and Planning.

**Position Requirements**
- A Bachelor’s Degree in ecology, conservation biology or related discipline with 3-5 years of directly related experience.
- Strong ESRI GIS and mapping skills, and the ability to create, update, manipulate, analyze, and document spatial/ non-spatial data.
- Superior botanical, wildlife and/or aquatic inventory and identification skills.
- Familiar with federally and provincially designated species and recovery plans.
- Familiar with sources of geospatial information.
- Knowledge of the principles of applied conservation biology, conservation planning and management.
