Nature of the work:
- The principal and customary work of the employee in this employment class consists in assuming the duties of network administrator of the college, carrying out highly technical duties and developing various computer programs intended for the processing of data from systems whose specifications have been established by the employee or the Analyst.
- More specifically, the employee will be responsible for a large campus wide multiple vlan network with over 100 HP switches and routers. The incumbent is responsible for configuration, installation, and monitoring of the equipment. They will also be a member of the Helpdesk team and may be called upon to dispatch network-related tasks to junior technicians.**Responsibilities**:
- Carry out specialized technical work of a complex nature and for which a sense of creativity, communication ability and a freedom of action are required. Specific tasks are outlined below:
- Assume overall responsibility for developing, administering and maintaining the network consisting of switches, routers, wireless access points, controllers, hubs, testers, microcomputers and other related devices
- Install network and communication hardware and software
- Troubleshoot problems and repair or replace broken pieces or arrange to have repaired items
- Participate in the evaluation of hardware and software for consideration by the College in future purchases
- Maintain communications with suppliers of the above-mentioned equipment, advising the Dawson community of new versions, revisions or changes to procedures
- Provide other support staff with instructions in the proper use of the above equipment and on networking technology and procedures
- Maintain an accurate and current network map for the purpose of network planning and troubleshooting
- Maintain an accurate and current database of port/jack assignments for the purpose of tracing routes when needed
- Participate in the overall technical support of the Dawson community via the Help Desk and other methods
- Receive and analyze reports of breakdowns using appropriate testing systems and equipment
- Diagnose problems in the above areas correcting them when possible or placing service calls where necessary
- Keep records and inventory of equipment disposition and breakdowns reporting any chronic problems to the Network Security Analyst
- Perform other related duties

**Requirements**:
- Qualifications:
- To have a diploma of college studies (DEC) in an appropriate specialty or a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority and have at least four (4) years of experience.
- Conditions:
- Current knowledge of TCP/IP and other communications protocols
- A good understanding of the networking aspects of Windows, Linux, and Mac OS (testing may be required)
- Network-related certifications would be an asset
- Must be self-motivated with good customer skills and comfortable working in a collegiate environment
- Very good English skills and basic French skills (testing may be required)
