Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Director, Development at the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences, the Advancement Officer performs a wide range of activities to meaningfully engage alumni, prospects, donors and other members of the McGill community with the Faculty in order to maximize philanthropic support for the Faculty and University. In alignment with University Advancement’s strategic objectives, the Advancement Officer oversees implementation of short and long-term plans to maximize high-level alumni and donor engagement with the Faculty and the University and its established alumni relations and annual giving programs. The AO acts as a stewardship resource for partners within the development unit and across the Faculty.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Work in close collaboration with colleagues in the central University Advancement Office and other faculty-based fundraising operations.
2. Qualify donors, obtain appointments, and solicit McGill Annual Fund/Leadership gifts.
3. Facilitate and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including alumni, donors, students, parents and friends, while working across different areas within the University.
4. Analyze the faculty’s pipeline to assist in determining appropriate engagement strategies to move the faculty’s priority prospects through the giving stages.
5. Plan, organize and administer the full spectrum of Faculty annual fund programs, including donor qualifications and solicitations for the Annual Fund Leadership gifts and Reunion Class Giving support, under the guidance of the Development Officer.
6. In collaboration with the Communications Officer of the Faculty of Dental Medicine, the Advancement officer will support the creation of content for the faculty social media pages, in order to share strategic news and engage the community.
7. Work with colleagues within the faculty & with the central Alumni Relations team to enhance alumni/donor, student, parent and faculty & staff connections to increase awareness of philanthropy especially among student and young alumni populations, contributing to the growth of the prospect pipeline.
8. Engage leadership level annual fund donors through group and personalized activities in order to move them through the giving pipeline.
9. Identify, recruit, train and administer network of faculty-based volunteers to assist with alumni engagement and fundraising activities. Ensure appropriate follow-up communications to volunteers pre

10. In conjunction with central Donor Relations, administer Stewardship Programs for the Faculty including Leadership Level annual fund donors
11. Develop, execute and oversee the donor acknowledgement and recognition programs, ensuring timely and appropriate acknowledgements and regular refresh of content and assess, if the programs being implemented meet the needs of the donors, in collaboration with the Central Donor Relations team.
12. Plan events, such as Homecoming and philanthropy-themed events, that support the Dean and the faculty’s strategic advancement objectives in collaboration with the Faculty-based development team.
13. Serve as the faculty alumni relations designate for appropriate departmental, Faculty and University-wide committees.
13. Act as project manager and key liaison between the faculty, central Alumni relations and other key stakeholders in the implementation and delivery of engagement strategies.
14.Undertake responsibilities or special projects as needed.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities- Advancement experience required. Previous experience in a nonprofit environment as well as experience in cultivation and solicitation of donor prospects are an asset- Knowledge of dental medicine, along with experience in philanthropy in the medical sector are an asset.- Demonstrated understanding of alumni relations and its importance in the development process.- Strong written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with alumni volunteers and colleagues about engagement and fundraising programs, procedures and university issues.- Must be results driven, a self-starter, and highly motivated with an interpersonal style that fosters constructive and productive relationships with diverse constituencies.- Must be client focused, with excellent organizational, attention to detail, problem solving, planning, and priority setting skills.- Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects within tightly prescribed timetables and shifting priorities.- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as part of a team in a complex, changing, deadline-oriented environment.- Experience in program development, marketing, and project management.- Ability to analyze and read data, determining, and acting on trends.- Demonstrated ability in a PC environment, proficient usi
