Safe at Home Society is looking for an Outreach Workers to join our community-based team These individuals must be strengths-based, creative team players committed to ending homelessness by staying housing-focused.

This position is very team focused and will be overseen by Safe at Home’s Program Supervisor.
- Immediate start to March 31, 2024, with option to extend depending on funding._

**PRIMARY OBJECTIVE**:To provide evening and weekend outreach support to individuals who are precariously housed and/or are experiencing homelessness.

**Hours to be determined but afternoon start to 10pm or midnight, and Saturdays. Schedule may shift depending on client need.

**POSITION SCOPE**

Working closely with service providers in Whitehorse, the Outreach Workers will support individuals experiencing homelessness or who are precariously housed to be connected to appropriate supports and services.

**Responsibilities**:

- Build and foster supportive relationships with clients, adhering to confidentiality and trauma-informed practices; supporting clients with an outreach-based approach;
- Offer crisis intervention, guest management support, and eviction prevention services to individuals who are referred or self-referred;
- Coordinate and make appropriate _warm_ referrals to increase support networks and reduce isolation;
- Work closely with Safe at Home’s Eviction Prevention and Housing Stability workers and other service providers to identify ongoing gaps and pressure points in the housing support system;
- Facilitate linkages between clients and community resources to assist clients to achieve their goals;
- Offer supports as needed between time of intake and housing placement while individuals are still experiencing homelessness, including ensuring basic needs are met;
- After a housing move-in, provide additional supports necessary to ensure housing stability of client;
- Work with Housing Provider Liaison to improve relationships with landlords and advocate for tenants as the need emerges;
- Participate in team meetings as required;
- Other responsibilities as they emerge and/or are directed by the Executive Director of Safe at Home Society.

Skills & Abilities
- Computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office;
- Knowledge of the Residential Landlord and Tenant Act;
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a part of a team;
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals living with multiple barriers to stable housing;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Excellent conflict management/crisis prevention/mediation training and/or demonstrated skills; and
- Possess the ability to manage competing priorities and coordinate several tasks at once.

**Qualifications**:

- Completed post-secondary education in social services or related field and a minimum 2- years work, volunteer, or lived experience related to homelessness, outreach, housing, and supports; a combination of experiences will be considered;
- Knowledge of decolonising and housing first approaches to client support;
- Awareness of the complexities of homelessness, poverty, and the colonial context of homelessness in the Yukon, among other related issues;
- Awareness of non-government, First Nations, and territorial government agencies and resources as they relate to client support;
- The submission of a Vulnerable Sector police check;
- First Aid/CPR-C; and
- Naloxone and overdose response training

**Salary**: From $33.00 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
