**Community Outreach and Youth Program Coordinator**

The Yukon Literacy Coalition is a registered non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of the people of the north by providing accessible and culturally appropriate learning opportunities. We serve the territory in many ways including: Literacy and Essential Skills (LES) embedded workshops and programs, conducting and participating in regional and national community-based research projects operating the Family Literacy Centre (FLC) and running a vibrant Yukon-wide outreach program. We work in partnership with First Nation governments, Yukon government, municipalities, and other non-profit organizations.

**Job Summary**

The Yukon Literacy Coalition is looking for someone who can operate exciting and engaging programs for youth and Yukon communities. This position is responsible for delivering youth skills for success, youth financial literacy, community outreach, and youth employment programs. The program coordinator will work in collaboration with the YLC team to create and facilitate workshops designed to enhance and build life skills in youth and Yukon communities.

**This job has three main areas of programming**:
1. Youth Skills for Success programs teach and support one of the nine skills for success outlined by the government. This program also supports the youth with providing Financial Literacy workshops. This activity requires the Youth Program Coordinator to develop, facilitate, and evaluate youth financial literacy and skills for success workshops.

2. Develop and Deliver workshops in Yukon communities focused on strengthening the skills for success and building a network of community facilitators. This position will require travel to all Yukon communities.

3. Delivering a tri-territorial Northern Youth Employment project within the Yukon. This position will work collaboratively with counterparts in Nunavut and the Northwest Territories to ensure smooth and effective program delivery to enhance the literacy, essential skills and employability of Northern youth and facilitate a better quality of life through lifelong learning, employment, and education.

**Duties**

**Youth Financial Literacy and Skills for Success**
- Coordinate and facilitate Youth Financial Literacy workshops throughout Yukon schools, recreation centres, and youth groups.
- Promote Youth Financial Literacy and Skills for Success program with partner organizations throughout the Yukon
- Develop and Deliver 18 Skills for Success Workshops by March 31, 2025

**Constructing Effective Learning and Literacy Societies (CELLS)**
- Coordinate with community facilitators to host workshops to strengthen skills for success and to continue to expand our relationships across the Yukon.
- Travel to Yukon communities to participate in the delivery of 13 workshops before March 31, 2025.

**Youth Employment Project**
- Develop Yukon learning modules and training program models for employment readiness and work experience
- Recruit Yukon youth program participants using a range of methods including social media, community information sessions and one-on-one conversations
- Provide one on one support to participants as they engage in their work experience and assist with attainment of employment thereafter

**Working Conditions**
- Majority of program development work will take place in a typical office setting
- Workshops will be delivered in a variety of different settings both indoor and outdoor.
- Travel to Yukon rural communities in all weather conditions (to -30 degrees Celsius)

**Qualifications**

**Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**
- Knowledge of community services and resources for referrals and partnerships
- Strong communication and psychoeducational support skills
- Self-directed and independent worker with the ability to take instruction and feedback
- Works well under pressure while demonstrating effective leadership and problem solving skills
- Excellent organizational, listening and writing skills
- Able to maintain confidentiality of clients
- Able to lift and carry 30lbs

**Required Training and Experience**
- Post-Secondary degree in Education, Psychology, social work and/or a related field
- Experience in program and module development, management and evaluation
- Experience working with children and youth
- Significant presentation and facilitation experience
- Yukon First Nations 101, or willingness to obtain
- Trauma Informed Care, or willingness to obtain

**Required Licenses, Certificates and Registrations**:

- Standard First Aid and CPR-C
- Valid Yukon Driver’s license and access to a vehicle
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector
