**GENERAL DESCRIPTION**

The Welcome Centre Shelter provides shelter to women and families experiencing homelessness. When children and youth access shelter with their caregivers, they are not merely accompanying their caregivers into homelessness, they are experiencing it themselves. Too often, children and youth are not provided meaningful, support opportunities to process shelter life and the disruption/impact it has on their overall physical and emotional well-being. A largely volunteer-supported program, the Children and Youth Program has limited staff, who work within the family shelter program to create a welcoming, safe, and positive environment where children and youth of all ages have access to the supports that they need to minimize the impact of homelessness on their success. PT and casual Children and Youth Program Facilitators are responsible for facilitating children-and-youth centered programming, focusing on educational themes, and ensuring overall wellness while in shelter. These staff work closely with the Children and Youth Program lead to support the welfare of all children in shelter.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**
- In recognition of the often high-risk and medically vulnerable clients the agency serves, proof of COVID-19 vaccination status or approved medical or religious exception on file is required
- Completion or enrollment in Child and Youth Care (CYC) or Social Work (BSW) education
- Current Triple P Parenting Certification an asset
- Ability to meet competing demands (volunteers, children, caregivers, staff)
- Experience working with children from diverse backgrounds
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Prior supervisory work, volunteer oversight, or training is an asset
- Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Police Clearance

**JOB DUTIES**
- Coordinate with Children and Youth Program Lead, additional facilitators, and volunteers to support the welfare of all children and youth in shelter
- Facilitate daily group programming for children and youth in shelter
- Oversee and support Children and Youth Program volunteers by providing mentorship, leadership, and oversight
- Maintain the safety of all program participants by adhering to program and shelter policies, and taking on a leadership role during programming
- Contribute to program development and continuous program evaluation/improvement

**Job Types**: Part-time, Permanent, Casual

**Salary**: $17.00-$18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 6 - 18 per week

- 4 hour shift

- Monday to Friday
- No weekends
- Weekends as needed
