**Name and Description of Hiring Team**:
The Wireline Network Technology team is responsible for the technology development of Bell’s wireline business and residential networks. The team also plays a key role in the development of new services and the quality of existing services, and is responsible for access related to a variety of services including DSL, fibre to the node (FTTN), Metro networks, broadband home, voice over IP (VoIP) and IPTV.

The Voice lab in Ottawa is Bell Canada’s principle testing facility for wireline voice services. In addition to being used to support/maintain existing services, the lab is used to verify functionality of future technologies. Voice over IP (VoIP) is the predominant technology/platform tested. The lab includes equipment for end-to-end verification and involves all layers of the OSI protocol model. This position offers an opportunity to learn about broad network architectures as well as focused, specialized technologies (e.g. QoS, IMS).

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Contribute in the development of new, or modification of existing, network architectures for VoIP services.
- Development of test requirements documents.
- Perform various tests of telephony services, technologies and networks.
- Lab operation including hardware and software installation and configuration.
- Interact and work with equipment vendors on technology evaluations and/or joint service development programs.
- Maintain a good level knowledge on VoIP technology, industry trends and directions.

**Critical Qualifications**:

- University degree in Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Systems & Management.
- Internet protocol familiarity.
- Unix/Linux familiarity.
- Gifted thinker who is extremely resourceful and can learn new technologies on the fly, driven and proactive.
- Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, at the same time fun and possess a good sense of humour.
- Team player who always places the interest of the team above all other priorities.
- Strong aptitude to recognize opportunities for improvement in day-to-day work and take appropriate actions.
- Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision making skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Strong time management skills and work ethic (highly motivated) to manage multiple projects/accountabilities.

**Preferred Qualifications**:

- Previous experience in a telecommunication environment (ideally in a Network Architect position or equivalent)
- Knowledge and previous experience with Test Automation in a voice environment
- Sound knowledge on Network OSI Model
- Sound knowledge of VoIP protocols (e.g. SIP, RTP)
- Sound knowledge on Application layer protocols and how they work (DNS, RADIUS, LDAP,etc.)
- Fundamental systems networking knowledge (TCP/IP, routing protocols and principles)
- Knowledge of TDM Voice including SS7 and other protocols.
- Knowledge of 3GPP (IMS), IETF standards.
- Knowledge of IP network security issues and requirements.
- Knowledge of wireline and wireless technologies (call flow) and related protocols
- Knowledge of network management and provisioning (XML, SNMP, LDAP, SOAP, REST)
- LAN operation and administration experience
