We are seeking an experienced Machine Shop Manager to lead and manage the day-to-day machining production operations for VDG. Responsible for overall shop management and production scheduling as well as leading the existing team of machinists across two (2) shifts.

**Responsibilities include but not limited to**:

- Responsible for overall management of production activities and achieving production targets with required capabilities, yield, and lead time.
- Works with management and engineering to provide crucial input on design for manufacturing.
- Optimizes the machining processes in terms of consistent quality and productivity.
- Oversees program and setup of complex jobs on various manual and CNC machines including Turning Centers, Horizontal Machining Centers, CNC Milling Centers with 3 and 4 axis machines.
- Responsible for development and implementation of appropriate cost control and cost reduction initiatives within responsible functions.
- Assists in the design and development of fixtures, special tools and other related devices for production which align with the manufacturing processes and plans in a collaborative environment with engineering and production.
- Responsible for department planning and coordination of scheduling.
- Participates in new product development process and selection of machines, tools, fixtures, and inspection methods.
- Responsible for ensuring strict adherence of all company manufacturing standards/methods and policies.
- Responsible for development, justification, and implementation of continuous process improvement initiatives in quality, productivity, efficiency, capacity, and safety.
- Implements and develops manufacturing processes and departmental SPCs and SOPs.
- Manages staff selection, performance, development, and training processes to ensure team competencies and capabilities to reach the business goals and expectations
- Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance
- Identifies tooling solutions best suited for each process so as to reduce cost per component. Requires knowledge in cost estimation for the manufacturing process. (Machine hour rate, part process cost etc.).
- Implements automation systems where appropriate to improve productivity and reduce labor expenses.
- Other responsibilities as assigned

**Requirements / Qualifications**:

- Trade School, Certifications, or relevant training.
- Must have hands on experience with all types of manual machines (lathes/mills) and various CNC Machines including setting up and running CNC Milling / Turning centers.
- Must have experience with machining of various materials, including stainless steel, mild steel, and aluminum.
- Knowledge of cutters and inserts, capable of selecting the right tools for the machining operations based on the component material, hardness & drawing tolerances.
- Requires knowledge on fixturing concepts for CNC milling & conventional machining processes.
- Requires a strong background in CNC Programming and troubleshooting for 2-4 axis CNC Machining Centers etc.
- Has firm understanding of CADCAM, Master-Cam and GD&T.
- Has working knowledge in manual CNC programming and 2D and 3D program generation.
- Possesses knowledge of hydraulic fixtures working mechanism and troubleshooting, cutting tools, speeds & feeds.
- Must possess recognizable and demonstrable leadership skills, exercise good judgment, be well organized, and have excellent communication skills (verbal, written and interpersonal).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent customer service skills, with an advanced understanding of customer relationship building.
- Strong proficiency with tools, systems, and procedures required to accomplish the job.
- Experience with Mazatrol and Fanuc controls for Milling and Lathe machines
- A working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Industrial Relations, and the Employment Standards Act
