Student Accounts Analyst

Reporting to the Manager, Student Accounts, the Student Accounts Analyst supports the student experience business model for the OTR and Sheridan by providing operational and reconciliation support for the Student Accounts Office.
The incumbent is responsible for reconciling departmental transactions and reporting on balances to support service delivery objectives and compliance with policy, specifically in the following areas: student fees, payments, refunds, collections, and accounts receivable.
The incumbent is responsible for maintaining monthly reconciliations to general ledger (GL), Month end closing process and managing the third-party student sponsorships billing cycle.
The incumbent ensures work is completed in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and the guidelines established by Sheridan and the Ministry of Colleges and Universities.
The incumbent works with the Manager to support the implementation of new policies and procedures and recommends improvements for the effectiveness and efficiency of related processes through technology and best practice.
What You’ll be Doing
**Account Reconciliations and Analysis**: Assisting in month-end and year-end closing activities
Ensures integrity of General Ledger is maintained by reconciling various general ledger accounts
Performs a variety of data integrity checks which include some advanced Excel functions such as, PIVOT Tables, VLOOKUP, UPPER, TEXT, ROUND, Charts and Aging Report.
Identifies, investigates, and corrects all variances to allow for a successful upload to PeopleSoft Financial, providing journal entries to Financial Services for required reconciling items.
Works with team members and other departments to resolve reconciling items and escalates and unresolved technical errors to the Manager and the IT Department.
Manages refund volumes posted by members of the department and balances various batch requests to be sent to external sources for processing (CIBC International Student Pay, EMT, Accounts Payable, National Student Loans Service Centre).
Reconciles returned and rejected refunds from external sources and provides direction to staff for reprocessing.
Maintains ongoing liaison with student third party sponsors to ensure timely and accurate processing of sponsorship agreements.
Sets up, bills and reconciles corporate receivables related to student accounts sponsored by a third party including follow up on delinquent corporate accounts.
Administers College Policies relating to student fees, refunds and collections and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. F.31.
Maintains files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policy and GAAP.
Analyses the student account trial balance to categorize credit balances and identify delinquent accounts to be managed through the collections process.
Assists with internal and external audit data requirements and investigation.
Works with other departments to resolve inquiries and investigations related to reconciling items affecting the student account trial balance.
Develops documentation on department procedures and reconciliation.
Evaluates current operational processes and recommends improvements to ensure accuracy and timely reconciliation of department transactions.
Advises and guides team members on best processing practices to ensure accurate information is posted to student accounts and correctly reflected in the general ledger.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

You have a highly collaborative spirit and excellent interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to facilitate conversations effectively.
3 year diploma / degree plus professional certification or equivalent in business administration, accounting or finance and a minimum of 5 years relevant work experience in an Accounts Receivable environment (equivalences to be considered).
Must be computer literate and have working experience with PeopleSoft or other financial management systems, Word and Excel (at the intermediate level) as well as experience with account reconciliations.
Must have advanced problem-solving skills, knowledge and experience with accounting principles, mathematical calculations and general ledger cost accounting and distribution.
Must have demonstrated experience working and communicating with all levels of staff.
Minimum of one (1) year PeopleSoft Campus is preferred.
