**Job Overview**
Reporting to the Senior Director of MEC Label, the hard goods Category Manager (CM) is a key leadership role within the production creation engine of MEC Label. It requires a unique blend of a strong brand vision and well-seasoned business acumen. You will lead the entire go-to-market process from identifying market opportunities, assortment planning, product briefs all the way through to marketing briefs. You will also lead the growth of MEC Label hardgoods by identifying market opportunities and growing our offer through “white label” sourcing opportunities.
This role is vital to MEC Label's growth, as it requires an artful orchestration of many cross-functional partners within the MEC organization (Design, Development, Sourcing, Production, Merchandising, Planning, Marketing and Logistics), all while ensuring that commercialization timelines and launch dates are met.
The CM works closely with his or her Merchandising counterparts to ensure that MEC Label product assortment strategies support company financial objectives, while positioning the MEC Label brand for long-term success.
The CM will own the 3-year strategic planning for the MEC Label hard goods category, including market positioning of the category, product lifecycle management and sales/buy plans in collaboration with Planning, Merchandising and Supply Chain teams to support the long-term strategy of the MEC organization.

**SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Establish a positioning strategy (target audience, market opportunity, key competitors, etc.) and line architecture for the MEC Label hard goods category that support the overarching MEC Label vision and growth objectives.
- Possess expert knowledge on assessing market opportunities and driving brand growth through various product creation channels; internal design and development or outsourced “white label” opportunities.
- Expert on the North American outdoor industry, including key competitors, market trends and target consumer behaviors.
- Build strong seasonal product briefs to clearly communicate what’s required from the design, development, and sourcing.
- Build and maintain a strong working relationship with merchandising/buying partners built on trust, mutual respect, collaboration, and shared objectives.
- Based on cross-functional input, you will architect seasonal line plans, including style level target IMU%, retail prices and forecast, to deliver against our brand, our financial and our productivity targets.
- You will play a central role in the product creation engine to ensure profitability and brand goals are met at every stage of the product creation calendar from brief to on-time in DC
- Manage the product lifecycle to maximize the revenue from all products throughout the lifecycle.
- Develops, promotes and builds on the existing MEC Label franchise, through clear identification of market opportunities.
- Ensure the product portfolio is aligned to meet both current and future market needs from both a product and financial perspective.
- Contribute to other business operations projects as needed.
**EXPERIENCE & SKILLS**
- Solid product creation/merchandizing experience with both wholesale and retail brands (private label).
- Strong communication skills and ability to articulate a clear positioning strategy and collaborate with cross functional teams.
- Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
