Summary:
Within the context of a patient and family-centered model of care, and in accordance with the Mission, Vision, Values, and strategic directions of Providence Health Care (PHC), promotes a safe, respectful, and civil working environment for medical physicians.

Reporting to the Manager, Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) and also supporting the Senior Medical Director of Medical Affairs and the Executive Director (Medical Affairs and Medical Staff), the Program Lead, Medial Staff Occupational Health and Safety is accountable for leading a variety of projects and facilitates and coordinates occupational safety, hygiene, and wellness initiatives aimed at the prevention of illness and injury within the PHC physician population. The role develops, recommends, facilitates, implementing, evaluates and improves physician systems, programs, and services that could affect the health, safety and wellness needs of PHC physicians.

Qualifications / Skills and Education:
Education, Training and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field plus five (5) years’ experience in a professional role in occupational health & safety, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Demonstrated experience with WorkSafeBC issues and systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Develops, implements, monitors and audits the various components of the Medical Staff OH&S program and Health and Safety Management System, including the implementation and sustainability of the mPOSH (Medical Physician Occupational Safety & Health) program at PHC.

2. Leads occupational health and safety related projects and functions as a resource for Medical Leadership team to ensure that processes, workflow and implementation of changes achieve the desired outcomes.

3. Develops, implements and evaluates new technical solutions and new or redesigned processes ensuring alignment with departmental and clinical objectives and provincial mandates. Ensures current evidence based practice is incorporated with change and/or project management methodologies that will transform service, culture and system structure.

5. Develops and leads an education and training strategy related to projects including on line learning opportunities; provides consultation, education, and interpretation of various guidelines and processes to Medical Staff and Leaders across PHC.

6. Develops project plans that outline improvement timelines and deliverables; ensures completion and coordination of assigned initiatives; facilitates consensus with stakeholders and manages project resources including preparing and monitoring project budgets and expenditures where required; identifies and resolves issues.

8. Responds to workplace incident reports and supports Medical Leaders and Medical Staff by ensuring appropriate follow-up action is taken including appropriate corrective actions to prevent injury and illness, and provides recommendations to achieve compliance with applicable legislation and the Medical Staff OH&S program.

9. Works cooperatively and collegially on teams and task forces with other members of staff to ensure that occupational health and safety requirements are included in work processes and systems.

10. Develops physician training programs and instructional materials and delivers training using a variety of methods.

11. Develops communication strategies and promotional materials to enhance awareness and promote occupational health and safety issues and encourage physician engagement in new initiatives.

12. Act as a resource for the provision of existing or specialized occupational health and safety programming to internal and external contacts. Participates on internal/external working groups and committees as required.
