**Supervisor, Environmental Services - Permanent Full-Time**

**Position summary**:
Reporting to the Manager, Facilities, this position is responsible for overall management of the daily functions of Environmental Services (EVS). Responsibilities include the management of staff and their work assignments, performing quality audits, ordering and managing material and equipment supplies, staff performance appraisals, coordinating staff schedules in conjunction with Central Scheduling Office and staff education sessions. Establishes and maintains standards of quality of services; co-ordinates the Housekeeping, linen services, private laundry of patient wear, and waste management with other services; and keeps current by means of continuing education. Develops and maintains department standards, policy and procedures, department operational and financial priorities and budget management.

**Responsibilities include**:

- Collaborates with the Infection Control (IC) to ensure all EVS services meet IC standards.
- Ensures all activities within Environmental Services are in accordance with relevant legislation and regulations.
- Participates in the preparation of the annual operating budget and capital budget for Environmental Services and provides appropriate reports to the Director.
- Plans, organizes and directs the activities of EVS.
- Manages the Waste/Recycling functions including disposal of biomedical material.
- Ensures department facilities and equipment are maintained and operated properly.
- Oversees and schedules all services supplied by EVS staff.
- Authorizes work schedules and payroll.
- Selects, orients, and trains staff, in accordance with hospital policy and/or the provisions of the collective agreement.
- Performs performance appraisal evaluations and other reviews on time.
- Completes attendance and performance management as required with employees.
- Provides leadership, guidance and support to staff and a wide variety of clients on housekeeping practices.
- Facilitates timely, ongoing communication strategies, i.e. staff meetings, bulletin boards.
- Responds to and resolves client and staff complaints and/or concerns in a timely manner.
- Maintains knowledge of current trends affecting EVS by demonstrating commitment to continued education and self-development.
- Community College Diploma or Certificate preferred.
- Completion of Ontario Healthcare Housekeepers Association (OHHA) Environmental Services Programs Level I, II preferred.
- Completion of OHHA Housekeeping Services Administration certification preferred.
- Member in good standing with the OHHA preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years recent experience as a Housekeeping Supervisor in a hospital setting within a unionized environment.
- Windows Operating System, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook.
- Demonstrated ability to manage the scheduling, training and performance management of staff.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
