**NOTE**:This posting represents a contract for the duration of three years.

**SCOPE**
Reporting to the Executive Director and Associate General Counsel, the incumbent is responsible for providing legal advice and guidance to senior administration on the implications of proposed commercial activity, from both a legal and business perspective.

**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Provide guidance and direction to senior management on significant public contractual and procurement law matters, as well as general law matters affecting the University.
- In collaboration with Procurement Services design and implement any and all necessary systems and tools (policy, procedures and processes) to ensure compliance.
- Analyze the scope of complex problems and the complexities of legal issues; identify alternatives and recommend solutions.
- Oversee procurement activities by interacting and liaising across divisions in order to determine specific needs and associated risks. Propose education and training of relevant staff on the most effective and efficient systems and processes for ease of compliance.
- Provide advice and guidance to stakeholders on the drafting of high-quality contracts and agreements to ensure compliance with all relevant law and regulations.
- Draft, negotiate and advise on a wide range of agreements, contracts, initiatives and files.
- Chair or lead committees and represent the University at internal and external meetings.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Law and over 7 years of experience with a focus on civil and commercial law.
- Member of the Barreau du Quebec.
- Must possess strong analytical, interpretive and research skills; a high degree of motivation; and a commitment to teamwork.
- Very good knowledge (Level 5) of written and spoken English and French.
- Ability to draft, negotiate and advise on agreements, opinions, correspondence in French and English without review.
- Proven ability to undertake a diverse range of complex projects and activities simultaneously and effectively.
- Action-oriented, discrete and mature, with business acumen are all assets.
- Ability to work under pressure and with tight deadlines is an asset.
- Ability to work well autonomously and in a team, in a dynamic, result-driven, service environment is a desirable quality.
- Knowledge of University or other corporate settings is desirable.
