**Working for Trades Infrastructure and Maintenance**

Trades Infrastructure & Maintenance (within University Services, Operations & Finance) is responsible for the maintenance of building infrastructure assets (ex: base building system equipment) across the University's main and other campuses. The University's building portfolio consists of a diverse collection of commercial buildings (including classrooms, research labs, athletic facilities, teaching labs, administrative and common spaces) that are supported by a wide range of mechanical and electrical base building systems of all ages. The main campus is supported by a district energy distribution system. In addition to the technical challenges that are associated with a large campus, managing maintenance in the institutional environment is complex and it requires collaboration with numerous and varied stakeholders. Our purpose is to support the research and teaching mission and vision of the University through excellent maintenance planning, maintenance execution, and stewardship of resources.

**Position**

The Architectural Maintenance Lead Hand reports directly to the General Foreman. The Architectural Maintenance Lead Hand assists the General Foreman by leading teams of full-time journeymen or supplemental apprentice/journeyman carpenters, cabinetmakers, painters, maintenance workers, hazmat coordinators, and contractors who perform the construction of new or renewed architectural building components of the University.

**Duties**
- Assists the General Foreman by planning and coordinating work related to 12MBM, CMR, SIF, Faculty funded, and similar funding sources. Works regularly with external clients in the creation of work scopes, creating work request quotes, managing scope creep, and managing client expectations throughout the course of a job.
- Focuses primarily on multi-trade work where many trades are on the same project simultaneously.
- Works directly with hired contractors.
- Works collaboratively with teams of architectural tradespeople to participate in the management of scheduling, establishing priorities, allocating resources, monitoring stakeholder interests and advising on budget constraints for projects assigned to them by the General Foreman. Ultimate decision-making responsibility for projects continues to rest with the General Foreman.
- Prepare and/or coordinate the preparation of job hazard analyses, safe work practices, field level hazard assessments, isolation procedures, safe work plans, project hazard assessments, standard operating procedures, and safe work clearances.
- Orders and expedites materials and supplies for cabinetmaking shop. Ensures that materials are properly charged to appropriate work orders.

**Minimum Qualifications**
- Journeyman Certificate as a Carpenter/Cabinetmaker is required.
- Minimum 5 years experience in the commercial (preferred) or industrial architectural trade as a journeyman carpenter/cabinetmaker.
- Computer proficiency.
- Demonstrated aptitude for using enterprise solutions employed by the University of Alberta such as, Google Business Suite (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.) and Microsoft Office Suite ( Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Demonstrated aptitude for using enterprise solutions employed by the University of Alberta such as AssetWorks, AiM ( computerized maintenance management system) SupplyNet, and Meridian.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
