**Position Description**:
The City of Waterloo has a full-time Locator

**Accountabilities**:

- Organize and prioritize locate requests to maximize efficiency
- Perform and document water, sanitary and storm locates of underground pipelines
- Measure and mark located facilities using paint, flags, etc.
- Communicate changes required to maintain the accuracy of the infrastructure management system (i.e. GIS)
- Communicate relevant details to leadership (Lead Hand, Supervisor and/or Manager of Water Operations and Maintenance)
- Conduct record keeping duties and maintain daily logs (detail sheets and drawing filing, etc.)
- Respond to public and internal water, sanitary and storm information requests
- Respond to emergency call-outs and situations
- Provide other administrative, maintenance, construction and operational activities in Water Services and assistance in other sections of City Utilities Services, as needed
- Provide customer service support and troubleshooting expertise in the field relating to locates
- Ensure safe and efficient operation, care and maintenance of tools, equipment and vehicles
- Perform daily checks on vehicles and equipment, including documentation of any issues
- Communicate and cooperate effectively with others respecting the core values of the Corporation, both internally and externally
- Participate in various teams and initiatives
- Perform other duties as assigned

**Minimum Qualifications**:

- Minimum of Grade 12 Education or equivalent; post-secondary education is considered an asset
- Three (3) years of experience performing water infrastructure locates
- Must have a Damage Prevention Technician (DPT) Certification in Natural Gas and Water from Ontario Regional Common Ground Alliance (ORCGA) or equivalent certification
- Valid MTO ‘G’ class driver’s licence in good standing with driver’s abstract acceptable to the City is required to perform the job
- Must be capable of performing the physical demands of the position, including lifting and kneeling on a regular basis
- Must have demonstrated experience using locating equipment and software; Experience with KORWEB is considered an asset
- Must have demonstrated knowledge of fundamental engineering concepts relating to design and construction process and procedures
- Demonstrated experience interpreting drawings
- Proven mathematical skills and computer knowledge of software programs such as Maximo and Inframap would be an asset
- Must have working knowledge of construction regulations (confined space, trenching and traffic control)
- Knowledge of wastewater and water distribution functions would be considered an asset
- Must be willing and able to work in an outdoor environment and actively participate in daily activities in inclement weather
- Must be motivated, hard-working and able to work in a team environment with mínimal supervision
- Must be reliable with good attitude and employment record
- Must be available and willing to work day, evening and weekend shifts, including overtime
- Employees will be responsible to ensure that any certificates and licenses are kept current and in good standing
- Supplementary training related to Business Unit will be required (i.e. Confined Space Training, Health and Safety, Environmental Spills, Utility Equipment Operation)
- A satisfactory police criminal record and judicial matters check will be required as a condition of hire

**Shift Information**: Normal hours of work will be 7:00 am - 3:00 pm. Overtime may be required for Operational purposes. Shift work may be required based upon operational requirements, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
