**Primary function**

This position is accountable to the Director General (DG) and will manage employees and oversee operations of the Toronto Family Law Services (TFLS) Staff Office located in the Atrium-on-Bay.

This position will be governed by LAO’s organization wide hybrid work policy. While the position is designated flexible hybrid, the manager, legal services will be expected to work regularly in person.

Home Location: Toronto Provincial Office
Secondary and Tertiary Location(s): 311 Jarvis Street, Toronto and any place duty counsel services are provided in Toronto

Reports to: Manager, Legal Services

**Key accountabilities**
- Inspire, motivate and mentor staff to ensure that clients are receiving high quality legal services in an effective and efficient manner
- Manage staff, ensuring effective staff hiring, development, deployment and performance management
- Implement new and existing LAO initiatives including changes to duty counsel services, LAO Vulnerable Client Strategies, etc.
- Work collaboratively with district and regional colleagues to ensure client service is provided effectively at all Toronto locations where family duty counsel services are provided
- Act as liaison between LAO, the Judiciary, the Ministry of the Attorney General and the private bar
- Support the Director General to effectively implement Panel Management in the District
- Work collaboratively with other LAO departments as well as external stakeholders to address any issues or concerns that may impact client service
- Manage departmental budget
- Contribute to the development of strategic/ business plans
- Support employee engagement; Occupational Health and Safety; Equity, Diversity and Inclusion; and other corporate initiatives
- Manage staff delivering unbundled family and child protection legal services - including document preparation, litigation and advice - to clients, emphasizing client service, positive results, public legal education and case continuity.
- Other duties as assigned, which may include direct client service.

**Required skills & experience**
- Degree in Law and a member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- Family law litigation experience.
- Strong leadership skill coupled with demonstrated commitment to client service
- Proven experience as an effective people manager
- Proven experience in managing financial and administrative functions and in directing and developing both professional and administrative staff
- Strong consultation, facilitation, mediation, conflict resolution and negotiation skills
- Experience in leading or managing change
- Analytical and strategic thinking skills
- Creative problem solving abilities
- Knowledge of the LASA 2020 and Rules & Regulations and an appreciation and understanding for LAO’s service model.
- Experience managing in a unionized environment is an asset
- Solid understanding of the justice sector, the needs of low-income Ontarians, and the particular challenges of legal aid service delivery.
- Training or advocacy experience in relation to mental health issues.
- Knowledge of family law including child protection law, and experience facilitating LAO settlement conferences.
- Knowledge of the broad range of legal aid services, including those provided by Clinics, Student Legal Aid Services Societies, Pro Bono Students Canada and other social justice agencies.
- Experience in managing financial and administrative functions and in directing and developing both professional and administrative staff.
- Strong consultation, facilitation, mediation and negotiation skills.
- Analytical and strategic thinking skills.
- Demonstrated ability to use latest communication technologies
- Must have intermediate knowledge of the following Microsoft programs; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Divorcemate and Legal Files Access.
- French language skills are preferred.
