Lamont County, Canada Friends of the Ukrainian Village Society Full time

**Term**: May 1 through September 9, 2023

**Hours of Work**: 35 hours/week. Standard shift is 9:30am - 5:15pm (may vary based on site need). Part time hours may be negotiated. The Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village is open 5 days a week: Wednesday through Sunday - weekend shifts are required.

**Wage**: Starting at $16.50/hour (currently under review)

As part of a dynamic team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional visitor experiences, which are both enlightening and enriching, on the front-lines of this unique living history open-air museum. Wearing a historical costume, you will deliver interpretive programs to the public and contribute to the authentic presentation of the UCHV. You will use your excellent communication skills to engage visitors with the history, cultural beliefs and traditions of Ukrainian settlement in east central Alberta to 1930. Your interpretation and program delivery will ensure visitors’ experiences at the site are both educational and entertaining.

**Responsibilities**:

- Deliver engaging programming and tours to visitors of all ages and abilities as a third-person (“tour guide”) or first-person (“in character”) interpreter
- Provide exceptional customer service to all visitors to the museum
- Delivering information and programs in an accurate and authentic way, as per training
- Maintain the cleanliness of public display areas and historic buildings
- Assist with maintenance of artifacts and/or program supplies
- Other related duties as required

**Qualifications & Assets**:

- Completion of high school (grade 12); Post-secondary education (current or complete) is an asset, with preference for studies in history, education, arts, drama, museum studies, tourism and recreation, cultural studies
- Highly developed verbal communication, presentation and customer service skills
- Ability to learn and retain historical information
- Outgoing, polite and friendly; must enjoy dealing with people of all ages and backgrounds
- Program delivery experience with the general public
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Mature and responsible attitude
- Must be comfortable working independently as well as in a team
- Knowledge of Ukrainian language and culture is desirable but not required
- Ability to work regular weekends and holidays
- Experience working in a museum or historic site is an asset
- Knowledge of Western Canadian history, with an emphasis on east central Alberta is an asset
- Valid Class 5 drivers’ license is an asset
- Standard First Aid is an asset

**Job Type**: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 5 months
