Grant Writer and Communication Coordinator

**Position Purpose summary**:
**Accountabilities**:
**1.** **Communication Coordination**:

- Creates and maintains a strategic communication plan for the ministry unit for both internal and external audiences
- Ensures communication and awareness of the ministry unit programs are aligned with the vision, mission, and values of The Salvation Army and in accordance with the applicable branding standards
- Solicits updates from ministry unit programs and ensures that relevant content is developed and published
- Provides creative and graphic design expertise and keeps up to date with the latest best practices to increase visibility and engagement
- Serves as a point of contact for media inquiries, as advised, and seeks guidance before responding
- Responsible for taking photos and producing videos and maintain stock bank.

**2.** **Grant Writing**:

- Seeks governmental and other agency grant opportunities and reviews eligibility requirements
- Prepares detailed funding proposals including budget, timelines, and evaluation KPI’s to solicit funding partnerships
- Ensures all grant reporting requirements are completed in a timely manner

**3.** **Relationship Management**:

- Acts as an ambassador for the ministry unit at various meetings, forums, and community events
- Liaises with Divisional Development to support them for the purpose of increasing

funding resources for the ministry unit

**4.** **Other Duties**:

- Provides input into policies and procedures pertaining to position responsibilities
- Other related duties as assigned.

- Ministry unit leadership and staff
- Divisional headquarters’ leadership

**External**:

- Advisory board, patrons, funders, donors, supporters, media, event venue providers, contractors, vendors and general public

**MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY**:

- Reports directly to: Director of Business Administration
- Direct reports for this position: None

**FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT**:

- No material responsibility.
- Regular responsibility for minor financial matters and for wise use of own resources.
- The incumbent may be involved in fundraising to meet a budget objective.
- May be authorized to handle small amounts of cash.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**:

- The incumbent’s work environment is in an office setting on site.
- Travel requirement is 20% primarily to other ministry unit work sites and other local places.
- The performance of the job requires lifting of loads of up to 20 pounds at times
- Must be willing to work some weeknights and weekends
- Must provide satisfactory Police Information Check (PIC) with Vulnerable Sector Search clearances Including a child and adult abuse registry check.

- Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of two academic years
- Degree/Diploma in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field will be an asset
- A combination of equivalent education and experience may be considered

**Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements**
- Minimum TWO (2) years of experience working in a Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related role, ideally in a not-for-profit environment.
- Minimum of TWO (2) years of prior related experience in researching, writing, and editing proposals and reports, ideally in a not-for-profit environment
- Proven successful experience of writing compelling grant proposals
- Demonstrated understanding of non-profit funding principles and fundraising opportunities for both public and private funding
