Reporting to the Manager, Utilities & Environment, our Environmental Specialists are accountable for delivering programs that ensure the successful management of environmental risks and continuously improve corporate environmental performance for Edmonton Airports (EA’s) system of airports. The role focusses on maintaining and improving our environmental management system and delivering elements of our sustainability program for Edmonton Airports. All these efforts will require a combination of the following to be successful in this position:

- An understanding and appreciation for a systems approach to environmental management, with an appropriate level of diligence and rigor.
- Strong desire and interest to learn about the industry and how we approach environmental affairs, including developing and maintaining specific technical competencies in key areas.
- Committed to internal stakeholder collaboration within our environmental programs and planning.
- Capable of intermittent field work.
- Comfortable with external stakeholder and public interaction.
- Interest in sustainability reporting, educating across our organization, and informing external parties of our efforts.

Day in the Life
- Maintain and improve the components of the current environmental management system (policy, management plans, programs, system manual, standard operating procedures, internal and external reporting, internal auditing), and develop new programs as risks, opportunities, and impacts change, for EA’s system of airports, currently YEG and ZVL.
- Conduct program-specific tasks, activities, and initiatives to deliver environmental regulatory compliance, due diligence, and to improve environmental performance.
- Support the operational compliance program for EA’s airports, to ensure aviation regulatory requirements are satisfied.
- Maintain a level of technical expertise and regulatory knowledge in key airport environmental aspect areas - aircraft noise management, Impact Assessment Act permitting, auditing, storm-water management, aircraft deicing, contaminated sites, fuel storage tanks, ozone depleting substance programs.
- Support ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) initiatives and programs including Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reporting, carbon emissions reduction programs, and related energy management items.
- Assist in delivering corporate sustainability reporting and education, performance tracking, and stakeholder interaction and information sharing.
- Manage the delivery of targeted environmental projects, audits, and activities by contracted services.
- Other areas include community environmental relations, emergency environmental planning, and solid waste.

**Special Requirements**:

- 5 years relevant and applicable experience; University degree in Engineering or Environmental Science; a professional designation is preferred, or a combination of lesser education and broader, more extensive experience.
- Critical knowledge and experience areas include:

- Understanding of regulatory compliance (Federal and Provincial) in a corporate setting.
- Systems approach to managing risks and continuously improving performance.
- Application of standards to ensure achievement of expected, mandated outcomes.
- Working with stakeholders to understand and address their expectations.
- A genuine passion for sustainability, strategically and tactically. Knowledge and experience in sustainability reporting methodologies, educational activities, and communication approaches would be beneficial.
- Logical approach to problem solving and a dedication to continuous learning.
- Excellent English written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex technical information into an understandable format for varying audiences. Experience working with the public would be beneficial.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks at once with constantly changing priorities.
- Experience leading collaborative efforts with internal and external groups would be beneficial.
- Previous work experience in an airport environment will be considered an asset.
- Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
