**Inclusion Support Worker**
We are currently recruiting an Inclusion Support Worker to support our family member with an intellectual disability to find ways to expand their world in this everchanging environment. This role is 20 hours per week, evenings and weekends. We are looking for a person to dive into the individual’s interests and support them in getting connected in their community. The Inclusion Support Worker will also support them with tasks at home. We are looking for a person who is creative, dynamic, and adaptive. Your role would change as community roles open up and change.
**Duties**:
- Facilitate the individual’s participation in community events of their choice and support them in developing relationships at those community events
- Attend community events alongside the individual to facilitate relationships with others at the event
- Build a relationship with and get to know the individual being supported
- Explore the individual's interests and support the individual in connecting with friends and new learning opportunities
- Support the individual in specific daily tasks laid out by both the individual and family
- Communicate any issues promptly and work collaboratively with their family, network, and existing support.
- Safeguard the individual in the home and community when needed
- Respond to unpredictable situations, if necessary, in a calm manner and problem solve with the family/team members
- Assist the individual in managing their finances, i.e. budgeting for living independently
- Collaborate with the individual around menu planning, shopping for groceries and cooking
- Work with the individual to establish a healthy daily routine. Encourage and influence a healthy lifestyle i.e. promote healthy eating, incorporating exercise into daily routines
Accountabilities:
- Communication: Communicate in a professional manner and build a respectful relationship with the individual and their family
- Provide a weekly update to the family
- Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality at all times
- Interact in a non-intrusive, image enhancing and age-appropriate manner
- Safety: Be aware of the individual’s physical, social, and recreational environments.Take action to minimize risks and maximize inclusion
- Documentation: Maintain accurate time sheets and any other documentation as required by the family
- Advocate: Assist the individual to advocate on their own behalf, advocate on behalf of the individual when necessary
Qualifications and Requirements:
- A steadfast belief and commitment to inclusion, the right for all people to belong, participate, and contribute to the community
- The ability to work independently in unstructured environments and to employ effective time management skills
- Coaching skills: Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate and support the development of skills as they relate to managing a home, social, and work life
- Knowledge of community resources available to support the individual's participation and inclusion within their community
- A valid class 5 driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, applicable insurance, and driver’s abstract
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Criminal Record Check complete with a vulnerable sector check
**Please note that this is employment working directly for a family through an FMS contract. It is not employment with Inclusion Alberta directly.**
**Job Types**: Part-time, Permanent
Pay: $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 per week
Schedule:
- Evening shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
