**Summary**:
The summer student position will provide technical assistance within the Economic Growth, Culture and Entrepreneurship Department.

**Duties include but are not limited to**:

- Provide in-depth qualitative and quantitative research abilities and evaluation of options
- Undertake and/or assist with research and implementation of projects to support strategic policy, business development and retention, and investment attraction initiatives
- Research emerging economic development issues
- Assist project managers on key issues and development of RFPs, as needed
- Prepare meeting agendas and minutes
- Prepare presentations using PowerPoint
- Perform customer service functions under the supervision of senior staff
- Provide administrative and statistical support to senior team members in the fulfillment of event and program initiatives
- Provide analytical, research and data mining support to the department
- Assist in the preparation of articles for the economic development newsletter
- Assist in the design and maintenance of MS Excel databases, and the department’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool
- Provide support for business events
- Respond to information inquires as assigned
- Assist with the co-ordination of international and other liaison programs
- Develop and implement new marketing and advertising concepts
- Other duties as assigned

**Qualifications**:

- Currently enrolled in a University program in Urban Planning, Business, Economic Development, Marketing, Planning, Geography, or related discipline
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft suite of products
- Demonstrated experience in researching complex issues
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations and procedures
- Good report writing and communication skills
- Must have good analytical and organizational skills
- Must have excellent attention to detail
- Must have well developed computer skills
- Must be highly motivated and excellent listener
- Must be able to contribute positively to a respectful professional environment

**Duration and Hours**:

- May to end of August 2024
- Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm, 35 hours per week (excluding Holidays)

**Location**:On-site at the City of Markham office at 101 Town Centre Boulevard, Markham, ON

Summer Student applicants must be currently enrolled in a full time educational institution and must be returning full time to school in September.
