About the Dalhousie Student Union (DSU): The DSU represents the collective voice of over 18,000 students in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The DSU advocates for student rights, builds community on campus through events, supports over 300 societies, and provides focused services to foster a supportive and positive student experience.

Overview

As the Dalhousie Student Union Sustainability Operations Manager, you will oversee planning and operations in carrying out its mandate and goals. Additionally, you will generally support the mandate through outreach and awareness raising and promoting involvement in the DSU.

Criteria
- Experience managing a budget
- An understanding of goal planning and benchmarking
- Ability to accomplish tasks through delegation and team building
- Project and event planning experience
- Interest in growing a culture of sustainability within the Dalhousie community

Duties
- Assist in the development and maintenance of Office communication channels;
- Responsible for university and community outreach (e.g. partnerships with the Office of Sustainability, College of Sustainability, Student societies, other universities, etc.);
- Collaborate with student societies, advocate for environmental issues, and provide support to existing campus initiatives;
- Responsible for understanding applicable DSU policies;
- Coordinate and recruit volunteers and honoraria positions for tabling, events, etc. (e.g., society fair)
- Take on new initiatives and/or issue-based campaigns to encourage sustainability on campus and in our communities.
- Chair the DSUSO Planning Committee, in particular:

- ensure minutes and meeting records are taken and submitted for record keeping
- book rooms and venues for meetings, focus groups, and other events as required;
- maintain contact lists for committee members;
- assist in the recruitment of committee members from a variety of sources within the

DSU Membership.
- Support transition for the incoming DSUSO Director;
- Maintain DSUSO operating and transition guide;
- Regularly report to the Offices Steering Committee

This opportunity runs from May 2023 to 30 April 2024. This position pays $16.55 per hour averaging between 6-8 hours a week.
