Brazeau County is looking for temporary **GIS Technician Student** to join our team for the summer months.

The role requires that they, both proactively and reactively, support the technological, business process, and technical support needs of clients and must be able to juggle multiple projects with constantly evolving priorities.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Printing and laminating maps on a large format plotter from GIS software programs as needed.
- Maintaining existing GIS web-based services, apps and dashboards used by staff in daily operations.
- GPS/field collection work/support for staff using ArcGIS Collector/ArcGIS Online.
- Supporting various daily departmental mapping requests.
- Coordinate and undertake quality assurance and quality control on work prior to passing it on as required.
- Summarize and export GIS information as required for analyses and distributing output information.
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to work independently or within project teams of various sizes.
- Adheres to guidelines as set out in Brazeau County’s policies and administrative directives.
- Accountable for working in compliance with the _Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act,_ regulations and codes, and participates in the Health and Safety Program.
- To undertake any other reasonable duty, commensurate with the classification and responsibility of the position, across the department in order to meet service priorities and business continuity requirements.
- May be required in the event of a municipal emergency to support the emergency operations centre and incident action/recovery plan.

**COMPETENCY AREAS**:
Education/Training:

- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Enrolled in a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or data technology course/program.

Licenses/Certifications/Designation:

- Valid Class 5 License is required.
- Satisfactory Five-Year Commercial Driver’s Abstract is required

Experiences/Knowledge/Skills:

- Knowledge of modern cartographic standards and principles.
- Effective communication skills and a focus on customer service excellence.
- Experience and knowledge working with the ESRI software suite would be considered an asset.
- Experience with Global Positioning Systems (GPS) would be considered an asset.
- Experience with Office 365 including Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams

**CLASSIFICATION**
Compensation Classification:

- Non-union, full-time, at 37.5 hours of work per week: Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
- Starting rate range is $22.53 to $24.03 per hour (Grid 1 Salary)
