The Opportunity
The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer is pleased to be recruiting a new member to join their team. The Indigenous Relations Coordinator will report to the Senior Manager, Government /Indigenous Relations & Environment and be responsible for programming and coordinating processes as it relates to Indigenous Relations, Indigenous protocol, ceremonies, and the municipal Calls to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation report with the City.
This includes the implementation, facilitation of the Indigenous Advisory Committee to help guide the City in restoring right relations while supporting the development and delivery of Indigenous events, programs, and other initiatives to assist the City on its journey of truth towards reconciliation. This position will engage closely with Indigenous groups, municipal departments, and community organizations and act as the central resource for Indigenous relations and affairs for the City. It will work with all departments to assist them in the review and revision of services, policies, communications, and processes to ensure a coordinated and culturally respectful approach to the delivery of relevant, complimentary, and quality programs and services.
**Some core responsibilities of the position include**:
- Coordinate and implement direction from the Indigenous Advisory Committee.
- Coordinate planning efforts of all Indigenous Ceremonies and annual events.
- Regional collaboration
- Public engagement
- Nurture Nation to Nation relationship building
- Respond and report to internal departmental needs
**Qualifications**:
- A degree in Public or Business Administration, Native Studies, Community Development, or another related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of direct experience working with Indigenous Communities and Government is required.
- Lived indigenous experience is and asset.
- Direct experience with St. Albert and Surround local Indigenous communities and groups is an asset.
- Reconciliation training is an asset.
- IAP2 (International Association for Public Participation) certification is an asset.
- Communication Skills, conflict resolution, Group Facilitation, and time Management.
- Strong project management and writing skills.
- The role is suited to someone who works well in a face-paced environment, is collaborative, and has a strong political acumen.
- Awareness and understanding of the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action.
- Awareness and understanding of the City of St. Albert’s Payhonin report.
Hours of Work
We offer a compressed work schedule of 72 hours bi-weekly (Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a regular day off [RDO] every two weeks). There is a requirement to work occasional evenings and weekends.
This position may be eligible for flex hours and partial remote work upon approval at the completion of six months.
Compensation
$79,053 - $97,296 per annum. In addition, we offer a comprehensive benefit package.
