**PURPOSE**:
The Chaplain, under the supervision of the Director of Chaplaincy and in collaboration with the Program Coordinators provides spiritual outreach and care to the clients and staff of the Toronto Harbour Light Ministries Transitional Housing Program, Immigrant and Refugee Program, and Grace Harbour Program accordance The Salvation Army accreditation standards.

**Expectations & Task LIST**

**WORKING RELATIONSHIPS**
- Reports to the Director of Chaplaincy
- Works collaboratively with Program Management staff of the Transitional Housing Program and Immigrant and Refugee Services, and the Corps Officers (Pastors) of the Downtown East Church to insure the provision of adequate and appropriate spiritual care to program clients.
- Attends case conferences, team meetings and staff meetings as requested.

**RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES**
- Provide Pastoral Care, moral and spiritual support to clients and staff involved with the above named programs
- As directed by the Director of Chaplaincy, plan, schedule and conduct weekly devotional, chapel services, and Bible Studies
- Conducts spiritual assessments for all clients admitted to the Transitional Housing Program, Immigrant and Refugee Program, and Grace Harbour Programclients on request
- Make Hospital visits on request to any Client/Resident who may be hospitalized
- Source and distribute Christian and other religious literature as requested
- Arranging ceremonies, observances and funerals for Clients, with approval from management, if required
- Make referrals as requested to churches and faith communities in the Toronto area
- Support special program activities such as Christmas, Easter, etc.
- Serve on Committees of the Ministry Unit as requested by the Director of Chaplaincy
- Participates in team meetings and case conferences for the Transitional Housing, the Immigrant and Refugee Services program and Grace Harbour Programs
- Maintains accurate case notes regarding the spiritual care of clients in keeping with agency standards.
- Submits Statistics on a monthly basis

**ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Adhere to standards that are consistent with the values, ethics and philosophy of The Salvation Army
- Participate fully and constructively in staff meetings and in-service training
- Engage in monthly supervision meetings and formal evaluations sessions at 3 months during the first year of employment
- Read and follow the policies and procedures and standards of the Ministry Unit.
- As required and is applicable, make suggestions that will improve efficiency, working conditions or procedures to management
- Represent the organization in a professional manner

**ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS**
- Post-secondary education in Pastoral Counseling, Religious Education or Biblical and theological studies
- Graduate of Salvation Army College for Officer Training or equivalent Ordination preferred; or training, with a recognized chaplaincy or spiritual care education background
- Multifaith and cultural competencies
- Languages other than English a strong asset
- Experience serving the spiritual needs of a diverse population
- Education, training or experience working with the homeless or marginalized population impacted by mental health, trauma and substance use issues
- Thorough knowledge of community resources and services
- Good interpersonal skills
- Fluent in written and spoken English
- Certification in First Aid/CPR; Crisis Intervention an asset

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months

**Salary**: $23.88 per hour
