We are seeking a keen network administrator to join our network operations team. As part of an agile team, you will work to support the Canadian Research and Education network, connecting researchers and students in primary, secondary, and post-secondary education, as well as investigating new and innovative methods of building and maintaining networks. You will be responsible for planning, implementing, maintaining, and upgrading network infrastructure. In addition, you will be expected to make technical decisions for the areas and projects that you are a part of, including decisions on tools, equipment, purchases, and implementation details, taking into consideration suggestions from other members of the team and participating stakeholders.

In addition to the day-to-day operations, you will also work closely with our members, as well as our partners in the National Research and Education Network (NREN) and the Global Research and Education Network (GREN).

We will ask you to:

- Assist in leading network architecture design and innovation.
- Assist in leading network technology decisions and implementations.
- Ensure problems are clearly communicated and acted on.
- Identify network-related problems and find the root cause.
- Propose solutions and work with the team to resolve internal and member-facing network
- and systems-related problems.
- Identify, evaluate, select, and implement solutions related to existing networks and new network builds.
- Provide technical support to member organizations, as well as advice regarding network technologies.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with team members, supporting team roles (such as project managers), membership peers, and NREN peers.
- Work with your manager and team to provide clear communication of work status and alerts of problems and conflicts.
- Work with your team members to ensure all work is executed and recorded correctly.
- Self-direct your work and be able to work independently while keeping in contact with the rest of the team.

You should be able to:

- Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain Juniper and Cisco network equipment.
- Understand existing network designs and how changes affect their operations.
- Manage, operate, and create networks leveraging cybersecurity best practices.
- Prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Work both independently and as part of a team to administer and operate networks.
- Clearly communicate network domain knowledge in both written and verbal form.

Your qualifications should include:

- Industry certifications like CCNP, CCIE, JNCIA, JNCIS, JNCIP or JNCIE and/or
- A technical diploma in Network Systems and/or
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Sciences
- 5 years of network-related experience in a BGP-based environment.
- Cisco and/or Juniper operating system expertise on both IPv4 and IPv6.
- Routing and switching (BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, EIGRP, VLAN, STP and LACP) work experience.
- A DevOps or Agile development mentality.

**Compensation and Location**:
This position is based in either our Calgary or Edmonton office. Salary will be commensurate with experience. No relocation costs will be awarded.
