Athabasca University's Faculty of Health Disciplines is recruiting for an Academic Student Advisor, Bachelor of Nursing Programs. This is a temporary-full time position ending 2027, with the possibility of an extension. FHD actively promotes research excellence and is home to two Canada Research Chairs in Regulation, Social Governance, and Inequities in Health as well as in Resurgent Methodologies for Indigenous Health. Reporting to the APO, Academic Advising Services, the Academic Student Advisor provides academic advising, program planning, and broad-scope student support for undergraduate programs within the Faculty of Health Disciplines (FHD). The position is responsible for responding to current and prospective student inquiries, assisting students with the interpretation of institutional requirements, complex academic policies, regulations, and program requirements, and supporting students in selecting appropriate courses based on their academic program, progress, and personal or professional commitments. The incumbent interprets student profiles and institutional assessments, assists students in developing program plans, monitors student progress, and provides proactive guidance to support student success. The role also supports complex administrative functions and processes within FHD, maintains appropriate student records, safeguards confidentiality, and works in consultation with the Office of the Registrar and other university departments as required to ensure students receive accurate, timely, and professional information. The successful candidate will support data integrity, process improvements, admissions reporting, and compassionate and respectful communication with applicants, academic staff, university departments, and external organizations. An undergraduate degree and a minimum of 2 years of post-secondary work experience in an advising position. Equivalent education and experience or a combination of these may be considered. Excellent, demonstrated working knowledge of all Microsoft Office 365 applications as well as student information systems (i.e., Ability and willingness to learn to use additional applications and software as needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the role. Working with a team of service providers and serving students are critical components of this position. Demonstrated use of written and oral communication skills including, but not limited to, listening, problem solving, conflict resolution and investigative skills are essential. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to recognize the need for keeping others informed, as required (APO, team colleagues, and others as necessary). A detailed
