Human Resources Specialist
- Human Resources Full-Time/Permanent As our Human Resources Specialist, you will contribute to the Town’s mission of "Taking of Banff" by grounding employee and workplace policies, procedures and programs in a culture of integrity, inclusion, accountability and professionalism. Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, this is a trusted, hands-on senior role supporting employees and leaders across the organization. You will combine sound HR practice, practical knowledge of Alberta legislation, emotional intelligence and thoughtful judgement to foster a workplace where people feel supported, informed and able to do their best work. The Human Resources Specialist supports the full employee experience—from recruitment and onboarding through development, performance management, employee relations and transitions. Providing practical HR advice, coaching and support to employees and leaders. Administering and supporting compensation, benefits, disability management, attendance and workplace accommodations. Leading and supporting equitable recruitment and selection processes. Coordinating onboarding, employee development, performance management, recognition and succession-planning initiatives. Supporting employee relations matters, including workplace concerns and investigations, with discretion and a fair, fact-based approach. Reviewing and maintaining HR policies, procedures and programs to align with organizational needs and legislative requirements. Building trusted relationships with employees, leaders, Council, external partners and professional advisors. The role relies on accessible, relationship-based HR support; A post-secondary degree, designation or certification in Human Resources or a related human services field. At least seven years’ experience as an HR generalist, with demonstrated responsibility in areas such as recruitment, compensation and benefits, disability management and accommodation, performance management, learning and development, employee and labour relations, and organizational change. Experience applying employment-related legislation and regulatory requirements, including conducting workplace investigations as needed. Strong written, verbal and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate HR information clearly in individual, group and public-facing settings. Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook, as well as cloud-based document management systems and HR/payroll platforms. A valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence and a clear driver’s abstract. Ability to obtain a criminal record check with vulnerable sector clearance as a condition of employment. Experience working in a municipal government environment is an asset.
