About SweetTech

SweetTech builds loan origination, servicing and capital markets software for commercial lenders across North America.

We are a small team based in Montreal, with colleagues across North America. You will work alongside experienced developers and see how a software team turns product requirements into working features.

The role

You will contribute to the software our clients use, with projects sized to your experience and guidance from the engineering team. Your work may include building an interface, extending an API, fixing a bug, or improving tests and developer tools.

You will follow your work through implementation, review, and testing. You will learn how to understand an existing codebase, make a focused change, respond to code review, and check that the result works for the person using it.

You will also use Claude Code and Codex as part of development. We will help you learn how to give these tools useful context, evaluate their suggestions, and explain the code you submit.

What you will do

  • Build and improve web application features with guidance from experienced developers.
  • Work on frontend components, backend APIs, or both, depending on your project and experience.
  • Investigate bugs and develop fixes that address the underlying problem.
  • Write and run tests, and exercise your changes in the application before asking for review.
  • Use AI coding tools to support development while checking the accuracy and quality of their output.
  • Open pull requests, respond to feedback, and document what another developer needs to understand your work.
  • Work with product and design teammates to clarify expected behavior and understand who will use what you build.
  • Keep your tasks current and communicate progress, questions, and blockers early.

What we are looking for

  • You are enrolled in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, or a related program.
  • You have built software through coursework, personal projects, an internship, or open-source contributions. You can explain how it works.
  • You have a foundation in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or another programming language, and are willing to learn our stack.
  • You understand basic programming concepts and can work through a problem step by step.
  • You are familiar with Git and interested in learning how web interfaces, APIs, and databases work together.
  • You ask useful questions, take feedback well, and follow through on your work.
  • You can communicate clearly in English with the team.
  • You are available full-time during the semester you apply for.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Angular, React, FastAPI, or SQL.
  • Tests you have written for a project, or experience debugging an application beyond coursework examples.
  • Experience with Claude Code, Codex, or other AI coding tools.
  • An interest in fintech, commercial lending, and agricultural lending.

Our stack

Our lending platform uses Python and FastAPI, Angular and TypeScript, CockroachDB, and Redis. Another product uses React and Next.js with TypeScript services. Your project will determine which tools you work with. Familiarity with all of them is not an entry requirement.
