Portfolio Analyst

Job Description

Location – This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person work at North Campus Edmonton.

The Office of Strategic Transformation and Delivery (OSTAD) is looking for a Portfolio Analyst to join the Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO) and help bring clarity and rigour to how the university’s most important initiatives are tracked, prioritized, and resourced. In this role, you’ll be the analytical backbone of portfolio management — maintaining accurate, up-to-date data on status, risk, budget, and dependencies, and turning that data into decision-ready dashboards and briefing materials for governance committees and senior leadership. You’ll work closely with project teams and functional/resource managers across a large, matrixed institution to build an integrated view of resource demand and capacity, flag emerging constraints, and support scenario planning that helps leaders make sound sequencing and prioritization decisions. Beyond the day-to-day reporting, you’ll have real opportunity to shape how the portfolio operates — identifying trends, supporting post-initiative reviews, and helping refine governance processes and tools. Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate, up-to-date portfolio data — status, budget, risk, milestones, and dependencies — and produce regular dashboards and executive-level reporting for governance committees and senior leadership
• Track and synthesize project health indicators, flag risks or delays requiring leadership attention, and support development of briefing materials, decision papers, and presentations
• Support intake, evaluation, and prioritization of proposed initiatives against strategic priorities and portfolio capacity, and coordinate agendas, materials, minutes, and action-item follow-up for governance meetings
• Consolidate resource demand and capacity data across the portfolio in coordination with functional/resource managers, flag emerging constraints, and support scenario planning on the resourcing implications of portfolio-level decisions
• Analyze portfolio-wide trends — including risk patterns, throughput, and resourcing — to inform governance decisions, and support post-initiative reviews comparing planned vs. actual scope, timeline, and resourcing
• Identify and help implement opportunities to streamline portfolio processes, including intake, reporting, prioritization, and resource planning

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business, administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience
• 2–4 years of experience in portfolio/PMO support, business analysis, or project coordination
• Strong data analysis skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex or technical information into clear, decision-ready material
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities
• Working knowledge of project/portfolio management tools
• Familiarity with portfolio management frameworks (e.g., PMI, PMO governance models)
• Knowledge of resource capacity planning methodologies
• Experience in a higher education, public sector, or other complex institutional environment is preferred
