We are the first line of emergency food support for people facing crisis and served over 200,000 Emergency Food Hampers to our community last year. We also provide over 80 partner charities throughout the city with food. The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director of Community Engagement, the Digital Communications Coordinator owns Calgary Food Bank’s day-to-day digital execution and helps turn organizational priorities into a practical digital strategy and content cadence. They are responsible for planning and managing digital activity across social, email, website updates, and campaign support. This includes keeping channels active, publishing content accurately, monitoring audience response, tracking performance, and making practical recommendations based on what is working and what is not.
This is a hands‑on role. Calgary Food Bank needs someone who can manage digital channels confidently, build a realistic publishing rhythm, provide clear performance updates to leadership, and identify when additional strategic, creative, digital, web, analytics, media, or production support is needed and help coordinate the appropriate resources.
What You’ll Do
Digital Strategy, Planning, and Cadence:
- Build and maintain a practical digital communications strategy that supports Calgary Food Bank’s organizational priorities, audience needs, seasonal moments, campaigns, and service updates.
- Translate annual and 90‑day communications priorities into a realistic digital content plan across social, email, website, and campaign activity.
- Establish a consistent publishing cadence, so digital activity feels planned, purposeful, and connected across channels.
- Coordinate timelines, approvals, links, calls to action, and required assets before content is published.
- Review the digital plan regularly and adjust based on performance, organizational needs, and emerging opportunities.
- Work with internal departments to identify, plan, and support external communications needs, ensuring important updates, initiatives, events, services, and priorities are reflected across digital channels.
Social Media and Community Management:
- Plan, schedule, publish, and monitor content across Calgary Food Bank’s social media channels.
- Manage comments, direct messages, mentions, and day‑to‑day community engagement.
- Identify sensitive questions, misinformation, complaints, or issues that require escalation.
- Adapt content by platform, recognizing that LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and other channels play different roles.
- Support stronger use of video, carousels, stories, partner content, volunteer stories, and recurring content formats.
- Monitor community conversations and share relevant audience insights with the communications team.
Email Marketing and Digital Content Management:
- Build, test, schedule, and deploy email communications, including newsletters, appeals, volunteer updates, donor communications, and campaign emails.
- Support segmentation as Calgary Food Bank’s email and CRM capabilities mature.
- Monitor email performance and identify opportunities to improve opens, clicks, donations, sign‑ups, and engagement.
