Job Title: Forklift Operator / Material Handler

Job Description
This role focuses on safely and efficiently handling materials in a busy shop and yard environment using a variety of forklifts. You will load and unload trucks and customer vehicles, assist with securing loads, perform basic shipping and receiving documentation, and support general labour tasks as needed. The position involves frequent interaction with drivers and customers, requiring a professional attitude and strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

Operate sit-down counterbalance forklifts ranging from 5,000 lb to 8,000 lb capacity, as well as a stand-up reach forklift when required. Load and unload flatbed trucks, trailers, and customer vans in a safe and efficient manner. Assist drivers with strapping down and securing loads to ensure safe transport. Perform material handling tasks in the shop and yard, including moving, reorganizing, and staging product. Use pick tickets to accurately select and load materials onto trucks.

Handle shipping and receiving documentation, including packing slips and bills of lading (BOL). Verify received materials against BOL and packing slips, identify discrepancies, and report issues promptly. Use RF scanners for picking, shipping, receiving, and inventory-related tasks as required. Perform general labour and production support tasks, including manual lifting up to 50 lbs. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in both the shop and yard.

Interact professionally with customers and drivers, providing courteous and efficient service. Follow all safety procedures and equipment operating guidelines while working in a large yard that may have icy conditions in winter. Demonstrate reliable attendance, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities. Essential Skills Minimum 6 months of recent counterbalance forklift operating experience. Valid forklift certification (Class 1, 4, or 5). Proven experience in yard material handling.

Ability to operate sit-down forklifts and yard forklifts safely and confidently. Experience with loading and unloading trucks, trailers, and customer vehicles. Knowledge of basic shipping and receiving processes, including handling packing slips and bills of lading. Ability to use RF scanners for picking and inventory tasks, or willingness to learn quickly. Capability to perform general labour and production support tasks as needed. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis. Strong attendance record and reliability.

Work Environment

The role is based in a newer, clean, and well-lit facility with a 5-acre concrete yard. Approximately half of the forklifts are climate controlled, supporting operator comfort in varying weather conditions. The yard's concrete base can become icy in winter, so safe operating practices are essential. The location is transit accessible, though it may require a short walk from transit stops. Work is performed primarily Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with overtime available on a voluntary basis.
