Job Summary We are seeking a thoughtful, experienced, and principled leader to join our team as Director of Professional Practice. Reporting to the CEO, this role plays a pivotal part in upholding the integrity, ethics, and professional standards that define AIC's Members and the appraisal profession across Canada. As the Director of Professional Practice, you'll provide leadership for AIC's professional standards, complaints, and review processes—ensuring fairness, accountability, and transparency at every step. You'll also serve as a trusted advisor to Members, committees, and the Board, helping shape the organization's policies and practices to promote public trust and professional excellence. As the Director of Professional Practice, you will: Lead the development, interpretation, and application of AIC's professional standards, policies, and practices. Provide guidance to Members, staff, and stakeholders regarding the Canadian Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (CUSPAP) and related professional obligations. Speak at stakeholder events where appropriate. Collaborate with Members, AIC's committees, legal counsel, and stakeholders on standards and quality assurance. Direct the administration of complaints and disciplinary processes. Ensure fair, timely, and transparent handling of complaints. Oversee reviews. Provide expert advice and recommendations to committees, the Board, and stakeholders regarding reviews, complaints, and discipline. Manage decisions related to Member discipline, reviews, and standards enforcement. Monitor appraisal matters that may impact the industry and public protection. Provide strategic advice to leadership, committees, and the Board of Directors on matters of governance, risk, and accountability. Serve as a key liaison with external regulatory bodies, government, professional associations, and stakeholders. Who you are Education A university degree is required (law, business, or related field is an asset). Professional designation in real estate appraisal (AACI) or equivalent real estate-related experience strongly preferred. Experience Minimum 10 years in a senior professional practice, compliance, or regulatory role. Demonstrated leadership experience managing complaints, investigations, reviews, or professional standards. Experience in a Member-based or regulatory organization is an asset. Knowledge & Skills In-depth knowledge of appraisal practice, standards, and regulatory frameworks. Strong understanding of administrative fairness, regulatory processes, and dispute resolution. Excellent judgment, integrity, and ability to manage sensitive and confidential matters. Superior communication skills, with the ability to explain complex professional standards in clear, practical terms. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment. Knowledge of French (bilingualism is an asset).
