Job Summary

The Production Manager oversees daily manufacturing operations to support business objectives and the annual operating plan. Reporting to the Alberta Operations Manager, this role provides leadership in safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity while promoting continuous improvement and operational excellence.

The Production Manager implements and sustains World Class Manufacturing (WCM) and Performance Control Systems (PCS) to improve efficiency, quality, equipment reliability, waste reduction, and customer satisfaction while achieving operational targets and business goals.

Operations

  • Supervise and schedule production employees and temporary staff to meet customer and internal requirements.
  • Conduct daily floor walks, monitor quality, identify unsafe conditions, and resolve issues.
  • Oversee equipment setup and troubleshoot production, quality, and equipment issues.
  • Ensure equipment and systems operate safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor production supplies, shipping materials, and inventory levels; order within approved limits or recommend purchases as required.
  • Monitor KPIs and implement initiatives to improve productivity, quality, safety, and efficiency.
  • Identify and drive waste reduction opportunities and monitor results.
  • Coordinate plant training, safety programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor coil inventory and rejected materials and communicate requirements to Purchasing.

Leadership & People Management

  • Manage production staff and recommend appropriate staffing levels and schedules.
  • Lead hiring, onboarding, training, performance management, coaching, recognition, discipline, and employee relations activities in accordance with company policies and applicable legislation.
  • Facilitate monthly Continuous Improvement meetings to review performance, address root causes, communicate updates, and reinforce safety expectations.
  • Support succession planning.
  • Foster teamwork, accountability, and open communication across departments.

Health & Safety

  • Maintain knowledge of company Health & Safety policies and applicable occupational health and safety legislation.
  • Train and coach employees in safe work practices and continuous improvement methods.
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections and safety talks with employees.
  • Monitor incidents, investigate accidents, analyze trends, and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety, confidentiality, and legal requirements.

Continuous Improvement

  • Lead daily PCS meetings and tiered accountability processes to align operational priorities and performance goals.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S, Visual Management, and problem-solving tools to improve plant performance.
  • Develop action plans to reduce downtime, defects, and material waste.
  • Maintain professional relationships with employees, customers, suppliers, and stakeholders.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Plant.

IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?

  • Minimum 10 years of manufacturing leadership experience, including troubleshooting and process improvement.
  • Post-secondary education in Manufacturing, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field is considered an asset. Minimal high school education
  • Demonstrated experience implementing Lean Manufacturing, World Class Manufacturing (WCM), Continuous Improvement, or Operational Excellence programs.
  • Strong understanding of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), root cause analysis, visual management, and problem-solving methodologies.
  • Strong financial acumen to diagnose and resolve business challenges in addition to budget development
  • Able to operate and/or supervise steel coil forklift and overhead crane handling.
  • Sound knowledge of OH&SA regulations.
  • Proficient speaking and writing English
  • Personal attributes include ethical, communicative, coaching, open-minded, observant and tenacious.
  • Quick learner, collaborative team player, self-motivated, and capable of meeting deadlines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
