OverviewOverview And Purpose Of The Role Come and join our dynamic Operating Room team at Schroder Ambulatory CentreReporting directly to the Manager of the Operating Room and PACU, the OR Coordinator plays a key leadership role in delivering high-quality, efficient, and patient-centred care. This exciting role is responsible for coordinating the surgical patient journey, supporting daily operations, and collaborating closely with surgeons, anesthesia, nursing, and allied health teams. The OR Coordinator is a visible clinical leader who fosters a culture of safety, teamwork, efficiency, and excellence while ensuring smooth patient flow and exceptional care experiences.

Key Duties

& ResponsibilitiesLead day-to-day Operating Room operations to support safe, high-quality, and efficient patient care. Coordinate OR activities, including surgical case scheduling and daily staffing for RNs, RPNs, OR Aides, and Housekeeping. Optimize patient flow and resource utilization across the Operating Room and related clinical areas. Daily rounds in the OR to identify any challenges/ conflicts to support staff and avoid delays that may impact patient care.

Liaise with appropriate decision makers/ Manager to help with any resolution. Collaborate with the Director, Manager, and Clinical Educator to support staff development and advanced clinical practice. Ensure compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and professional practice standards. Provide leadership, guidance, and expert clinical support to OR staff.

Support quality improvement initiatives, projects, and other duties as assigned. People ResponsibilitiesOversee appropriate daily staffing complements/assignments to ensure adequate staff numbers and skills to meet patient care needs. Address issues with Manager as required. Monitor staff absenteeism and relay any ongoing concerns to the Manger for formal follow-up.

Supervise and provide guidance to the group: TLs, RNs, RPNs, and HCAs. Provide assistance in implementing Unit/Corporate objectives, facilitating change and quality improvement initiatives. Corporate ResponsibilitiesParticipate in all mandatory training requirements and work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, company Policies and Procedures, as well as established industry guidelines. Education, Skills & QualificationsCurrent Registration: Valid registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).

Certification: Perioperative Nursing Certification required (CORN(C) preferred), or equivalent relevant clinical experience. Clinical Experience: Minimum of 3 years of perioperative nursing experience. Specialized Knowledge: Previous experience in an Orthopedic Operating Room is strongly preferred. Leadership Background: Prior experience in a leadership or charge role is preferred.

Leadership & Interpersonal SkillsTeam Leadership: Proven ability to lead, motivate team members, and effectively delegate tasks to ensure efficient room turnover and patient care. Collaboration: Superior interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary surgical team. Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to follow established protocols and convey information clearly and concisely. Professionalism: Ability to exercise high levels of discretion and sensitivity when handling confidential information.

Decision-Making: Demonstrated ability to make sound clinical and operational decisions within established guidelines and procedures. Problem Solving: Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and solve problems as they arise in a clinical setting. Autonomy: Highly self-motivated with the ability to manage a diverse workload.

Technical Proficiency: Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook). Employment RequirementsBackground Check: Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening.
