The Business Sherpa Group is recruiting on behalf of a client for a Human Resources Generalist to support operations at an Ottawa-based manufacturing facility.
Our client is a growing Canadian manufacturer operating in a regulated, safety-sensitive environment. The organization designs and produces specialized products that require precision, quality, and a highly engaged workforce. As the company continues to expand its operations and employee base, it is strengthening its HR function to support both day-to-day people operations and longer-term workforce needs.
Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Generalist will provide hands-on, on-site HR support across the employee lifecycle. This role is ideal for an HR professional who enjoys variety, values structure and compliance, and is comfortable supporting employees and supervisors in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
The HR Generalist will support recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, training coordination, HR administration, and legislative compliance, while contributing to broader HR initiatives and projects. More complex investigations and escalated employee relations matters will be supported in collaboration with the Director, HR.
Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of HR policies, procedures, and documentation in alignment with applicable legislation, including the Canada Labour Code, ESA, OHSA, AODA, Ontario Human Rights Code, and Pay Equity Act
escalate issues to the Director, HR as required
Coordinate full-cycle recruitment for hourly and entry-level salaried roles, including job postings, screening, interviews, reference checks, offers, and onboarding
Support payroll administration in collaboration with finance or external partners, including benefits enrollment and changes, RRSP/DPSP or pension administration, WSIB claims, and ROE preparation
Track attendance and leaves of absence (parental, medical, personal emergency) and support return-to-work and accommodation processes as directed
Maintain accurate employee records and HRIS data while ensuring compliance with privacy legislation and internal document management standards
Update job descriptions, assist with employee handbook revisions, and support Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) coordination
Help coordinate training and development programs, including onboarding, mandatory health and safety training, and compliance modules
Serve as a first point of contact for general HR inquiries and support routine conflict resolution conversations when appropriate
Provide administrative and coordination support for workforce planning, internal communications, and HR projects
Prepare basic HR reports and assist with data collection related to staffing, training, and turnover metrics
Support company events, celebrations, and social or engagement initiatives
Post-secondary education in Human Resources Management or a related discipline preferred
~2–4 years of progressive HR experience, ideally within a manufacturing or industrial environment
~ Working knowledge of employment legislation and HR best practices
~ Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills
~ Experience with recruitment processes and HR administration
~ Proficiency with HR systems, databases, and Microsoft Office
~ Bilingual in English and French is considered an asset
Compensation within this range will be determined based on job-related skills, relevant experience, education, and training.
Two weeks of vacation in addition to two paid shutdown periods
All statutory holidays
