Purpose
Responsible for teaching and learning, research and community engagement and to provide
support to the department/faculty in pursuit of its academic objectives. Responsibilities may
also include curriculum development, student academic development, administration and
quality assurance to contribute to the academic initiatives undertaken by the
department/faculty
Minimum Requirement
Lecturer P8
- A relevant Master’s degree NQF 9inPhysics (or related field) with a specialisation in electromagnetism/electronics.
- At least two (2) years of teaching or industry experience
- Proof of PhD registration and at least two years’ lecturing experience at NQF levels 8 and 9 will be an advantage.
- At least one peer-reviewed article in a scholarly journal (not mandatory).
- Evidence of active participation in professional, industry and/or community engagement activities.
- Evidence of competence in administration of a course/subject at the departmental level.
- Excellent computer skills
- A Doctorate in Physics (or related field) with a specialisation in electromagnetism/electronics.
- At least 5 years relevant teaching experience at tertiary level.
- Evidence of managing a research program and some publications in accredited journal/s, as well as postgraduate research supervision.
- Evidence of successful curriculum development and academic management.
- Evidence of active participation in professional, industry and/or community activities.
- Knowledge and experience of implementing quality assurance requirements.
- Excellent computer skills.
Lecturer:
- PhD or progress towards PhD completion
- Proven track record of supervising postgraduate students at the Honours level
Senior Lecturer:
- NRF rating or demonstrate the potential for obtaining an NRF rating
Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduatemodules in the Faculty of Education, subject content, subject pedagogy, and other Education and Pedagogy-related modules if needed.
- The facilitation of an effective teaching situation in which the learning experience can take place successfully.
Research
- Supervisor for postgraduate students.
- External examining/moderation and invitations to teach externally.
- Publish research in reputable journals.
- Keep abreast of professional literature.
Community Engagement
- Contribute to community engagement initiatives.
Curriculum Development
Student Academic Development
Academic Administration
- Implement policies and procedures applicable to the teaching and learning, community engagement, research, SHE, and academic administration functions.
Quality Assurance
- Contribute to Quality Assurance through committee meetings and submission of relevant documents.
- Implement appropriate interventions.
Personal Development
- Keep abreast of developments within your own field of study and its implications for the teaching/ learning situation.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and reporting
- Develop relevant reports as and when required.
- Communicate and consult with relevant stakeholders.
