Automation Engineer / Specialist We are looking for an Automation Engineer / Specialist based in Vancouver to join our Maintenance team at CertainTeed. This is a great chance to join a Top Employer and contribute to our growth and success. Responsibilities Plan, evaluate, organize and implement automation related projects and initiatives. Design or develop new process control systems and revise/maintain existing processes; develop and implement WCM projects; manage and guide contractors, consultants and suppliers; identify new opportunities and solutions with cost/benefit analysis and make recommendations to improve efficiencies. Plan and schedule projects and prepare capital expenditures. Manage automation team’s workflow and automation related projects and provide weekly status reports to plant management. Lead and participate in Focus Improvement teams to resolve critical process and production problems with customers and vendors. Provide technical expertise, support and enhancement of automation related systems (PLC/HMI/VFD/Instrumentation/Data and Voice Networks/plant electrical distribution systems) and implement required updates to avoid technical obsolescence. Assist maintenance team with any difficult troubleshooting issues. Use advanced tools/techniques to reduce process variations and downtime. Analyze operating problems, develop solutions and lead the implementation of corrective actions. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar discipline or five (5) years of equivalent training and experience to have comprehensive knowledge of the practices, procedures and regulations associated with electrical process control technology may be substituted for a degree. Five to ten (5-10) years of applied professional experience in Instrumentation & Controls/PLC. Applied professional experience in electrical process control, instrumentation, automation, industrial protocols/networking (switching & routing) and databases. Experienced with National Electrical Code (NEC) and Arc-Flash (NFPA-70) code requirements. Understands Burner Flames Safety controls (NFPA-86) combustion controls. Expertise in integrated automation and information systems in a manufacturing environment. Flexible, open‑minded team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and problem‑solving capabilities to work effectively in corporate, manufacturing and team environments. The base pay for this position ranges from $90,000 to $120,000 per year. The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate’s competencies, including but not limited to education, experience, skills and qualifications as they relate to the role. Fully qualified and experienced candidates will typically align near the midpoint. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount is 10% of base salary based on company and individual performance measures.
